BACK IN THE SCHOOLTIME GROOVE

School’s back in sesh and that means the weekends mean something again. The boys over at Glenn Danzig’s House know this, and they’re bringing a pretty sick party to cap off what’s probably most of the kiddies first full weeks of school. We talked about Bare Wires a good while ago, and mentioned that they’d be here on the 3rd, but we didn’t mention that they’d be a part of such a killer lineup [alongside Turbo Fruits, Cy Barkley, and Diarrhea Planet] This is one of Diarrhea Planet’s only all ages shows they’ve got going on right now, so all you kiddys oughtta come on out and get your kicks. YOU MIGHTA GONE TO THE SCHOOL OF HARD KNOCKS BUT I WENT TO THE SCHOOL OF HARD ROCKS AND IT’S PARTY TIME

Cy Barkley – Blackout [mp3]

ANOTHER TRICK

CIRCLE PIT

It’s just an Australian kinda week, ya know? Actually, I’m gonna take this as an opportunity to figure something out… Let’s get personal real quick — I almost married an Australian girl a couple years ago so that she could obtain citizenship [Oy vey] but she told me that everyone in Australia goes nuts for those red SOLO cups [you know, the ones that come in like packs of 50 and are kegger go-tos] Is that true? Can anybody tell us? We’d really like to know because the bogus bros are heading down there pretty soon and we’d love to send them off with something that’s guaranteed to make the kiddies go wild. Anyways, back to Circle Pit. You’d probably never peg them as an Aussie band. But, like most things we like, you could probably peg them as a rock and roll band that’s got a sloppy demeanor. They’ve had a couple releases in the last bit [most notably 7″s with Sweet Rot/R.I.P. Society and their full length to be released on Siltbreeze] They’re about to head stateside for their first US tour, so be on the lookout for them. We don’t think they’re coming down to Nashville at all, but we might be working on something with them up in the New York styleee. Yayee yayee

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

So JEFF played 3 or 4 shows this month in Nashville. We don’t think that’s happened since at least early 2009, right? Anyways, if you missed some of the shows, you probably missed out on opportunities to hear some of the new jams they’ve been cranking out. Lucky for us, the bad boys over at Paste Magazine sat the guys down to talk about some stuff and then got them to play a couple songs We talked to Jake and Jamin about how recording the new album went and got to hear some of the new tracks — it’s some real next level shit. Anyways, check out some of the videos below and tell them you love them before they head out again [won’t be back much between Thursday and mid-November…. breakin’ our hearts]

SALTING THE SLUGS

SLUG GUTS

Look at these cutie-pie Australian bad boys. They got the whole disheveled tough dude thing going on. You’d think it was just a put-on, but you’d be wrong! Aside from the obvious comparisons to their Aussie bretheren Birthday Party and Bird Blobs, the guys play some of the gnarliest brash-boy punk in the land of the dingo. Yeesh, how many stupid anecdotes can we throw in here about them being from Australia? Their moms are kangaroos. Their dads are Crocodile Dundee. Slinging guitars like boomerangs. Ummm… no rules just right — and rock n roll. Good? Good. Glad we got that out of the way. They released their LP last year on Stained Circles [arguably the best Aussie label – home to Brain Children, Deaf Wish, and releases of lots of US stuff like Jay Reatard and The Dirtbombs – we might be biased though] It’s called Down On the Meat, and it rules. Oh, and they recorded it in 7 hours.

XMAS IN OCTOBER

It’s been a bit since we mentioned anything to do with some of our fave West Coast babes, Christmas Island, but we just realized today that they’ll be coming through Nashy real soon on a tour with Wavves [you know, Best Coast’s boyfriend] We’ve only gotten to see the bad boys [and girl] live once forever ago at SXSW. They ruled about as much as a band can when they’re playing outside in the middle of the day in 100 degree weather to a crowd of hungover baybees. Check out a video for their song “My Baby” off last year’s Blackout Summer. Like we’ve said before — they’re not reinventing anything by any means, but that’s not a bad thing. Sometimes you just gotta get your jangly 60s pop on.

Christmas Island – Bed Island [mp3]

They have a 7″ coming soon from Sacred Bones [who seem to be able to do no wrong these days] and then another EP to come from the Woodsist camp later. Dig it.

We know we been telling you bebes about this for a while now, but we figured we’d throw out one more little reminder about today’s Magic Kids instore at Grimey’s. Their new record, Memphis, is available in all sorts of different formats – so pick up a copy on cassette for your shitty car and then an LP for your record player and then a CD so you can have an extra coaster around the house. TTOTALS TTOURCATION

Sometimes you hear bands and they say they’re from Nashville and it makes total sense and sometimes there are bands that say they’re from here but it doesn’t make any sense at all. Like Ttotals or The Looking Glass [we haven’t had enough time to really express how incredible we think that cassette they released is. Seriously. So good] Don’t get us wrong, we couldn’t be more stoked that they’re from Nashville. In fact, we think they’re one of Nashville’s best kept secrets [band-wise] They’ve got a new record coming out this weekend titled Drum Is Our Parent and things are sounding pretty killer. Ttotal blues space jams. Err.. not space jams, but you know. The bad boys are also going on a nice little “Ttour-cation” along the west coast. They told us they’re gonna be updating and blogging along the way —- so stay tuned here.

So go out to Open Lot on Saturday night and snag the new record. It’s magafik.
