This year has been pretty enveloped in anticipation for White Fence releases. We got Vol. 1 of his new double LP Family Perfume [Woodsist] a little while ago and it’s been spinning pretty non-stop around here. So much so that we’re about ready to flip for the release of Vol. 2 – which will see light on May 15th. There have been a couple tracks made available for preview off this second portion of the album – and you should check them both out. First comes “King of the Decade” which has Tim doing what he does so well in crafting paisley melodic psych pop. It’s a jam we could see fitting on his last record – Is Growing Faith – pretty nicely, check it out here. The latest track – “Be At Home” – you can check out at the bottom of the post. It fits in the Presley-aesthetic but also has White Fence venturing into some cleaned up vocals with more space sounds. We’re sold. White Fence will be coming to town in a little less than two weeks with Ty Segall at The End on May 21st. If you haven’t noticed – we’re pretty excited.

Well, we’re getting into our May-groove and getting prepped for full-on Summer and we’re gonna keep it going with a FREE show tonight down at Dino’s. Our good buddy and Nashville’s most solid dude – DD666 – is back in town for a minute and so we’re gonna get together and have a party. You’re all invited. As long as you’re 21+ [sorry children :/ it happens] If you haven’t caught Gnarwhal recently at all, then don’t miss out on this chance to see them. Since they’ve gone to the realm of the two-piece, things have changed a little bit and we think it’s definitely for the better. And any time you can see Mr. Koburn bang unrelentingly on the drums is a good time. Deluxin’ and D. Watusi are on board as well – so come by and grab a burger and hang loose for the Summer…

We’re two days deep into the week and we’ve already gotten to see Sonny Vincent play in a basement with Slammers and Way Outsiders and Psychic Hotline – and now we’re gearing up to catch our favorite Austin boys over at The End tonight. Not a bad start to the week, right? The Strange Boys have grown to be accepted here in Nashville as if they were a local band themselves. Currently touring with William Tyler and doing prior tours with Natural Child – there’s much reciprocated love between them and Nashy. Thankfully so because they’re some of the best dudes around. After releasing last year’s Live Music on Rough Trade – the guys have been working on getting their road-game nice and tight and we’ll get to see it in the flesh and blood tonight. Rounding out the bill are William Tyler, Denney & The Jets, and Ranch Ghost. If that’s not worth your hard-earned money, we don’t know what is. Come out tonight and get some real rock and roll…

We won’t bore you with more gushings about it – instead we’ll just simply say that you should go out and pick up a copy from your favorite record store. Or stay at home and do the digital-digital get down if that’s more your bag. Heavy Cream will be celebrating the release of this new LP on Friday May 11th at The Zombie Shop with Cheap Time and Fox Fun. We’ll see you there.
We made mention of this show a little while ago in THE RUNDOWN – but we figured it warrants its own reminder post. It’s not every day that Sonny Vincent of the legendary Testors brings his crew into town to play a house show, ya know? Let alone a house show as sick as this one. Come hang out tonight at The Other Basement to catch Sonny and the guys doing a slew of classic Testors cuts along with a few of Sonny’s newer solo songs. It’s guaranteed to be more fun than your typical Monday night. Cy Barkley & The Way Outsiders, Slammers, and Psychic Hotline round out the rest of the bill. Only one band playing this show has some sort of purposeful Internet presence – that’s punk as fuck. As things typically go at The Other Basment, it’s all ages and will run you 5 bones. Get at it…

It wasn’t all too long ago that we were talking about Kelley Stoltz’s new single, “Caroline”, that saw release from Les Disques Steak Records [and you can snag it here] but now we’ve got word of a new single coming from In The Red that has Kelley teaming up with LA’s The Intelligence - that’s the artwork for it up there. Sounds like a sweet pairing to us. You can scoop that 7″ direct from them here – and wait for a full-fledged Intelligence record to be out next month. If it’s anything like the last few releases we’ve gotten from the West Coasters – it’s sure to be a hit. The 7″ comes in a run of 600 with the first 200 being pressed on yellow vinyl – so act quick if you want to get a copy before they’re out. Check out Stoltz’s previously mentioned “Caroline” single below…

It’s hard to keep up. Really. After releasing the tour split single, his collaborative LP with White Fence, a full band LP, and more yet to be announced this year – we know it’s easy to lose track. The guys over at In The Red recently announced that they’d be doing their part to keep your record players spinning Ty Segall material with reissues of The Traditional Fools LP [originally release on Wizard Mountain and features such hits as this] and Reverse Shark Attack [the collaborative LP between Ty and Mikal Cronin originally released via Kill Shaman] So if you missed either of those on their first go ’round – you can send a big thank you over to In The Red for providing you with another chance to snag. Our buddies over at Burger Records also recently did a little Segall reissuing of their own. They just put out a bundle of 5 cassettes with 8 Ty Segall albums packed onto them [you can go here and see them all - we don't reeeally feel like listing them all out here] So if cassettes are your thing – get on it. Ty and White Fence will be in town later this month at The End – get your tickets here. Now – for your viewing pleasure – check out the video for “I Wear Black” off Reverse Shark Attack. It’s our favorite…

If you haven’t been getting your fill of power-pop lately [which would be hard to imagine since there's been such a flood of it in the last year] let us introduce you to Cozy. While it might look and sound like they’re from bubble gum glam era ’80s – they’re really a current 4piece of rock and rollers with an initiative to keep things sweet. The Chicago boys just had their first 7″ drop from HoZac and it’s a rock candy gem. They’re definitely not reinventing anything or bringing anything incredibly “new” to the table – but they’re keeping the spirit of Milk ‘N Cookies and Slade and The Sweet alive – so that’s got us hooked. You can check out a track from them below and order the single right here. They’ll be jamming it out this year at HoZac’s Blackout Fest so catch them while you’re there.
