GIRLS AGAIN BORN AGAIN

Man, those Mata-babes sure know how to get us going. They gave us all those official details about the Shattered tour that we just posted about, and now they’re giving us pre-release streams of two albums we’ve been pretty stoked to listen to: Times New Viking’s Born Again Revisited and Girls’ Album .

TIMES NEW VIKING

We’ve been pretty big TNV fans for a while, since the Dig Yourself/Siltbreeze days and the Funhouse [Mondo RIP] days when they’d roll through and play with Deluxin’. And we’ve had a pretty long-standing crush on Beth, so duh we are mega-stoked. Since they started out in Columbus/Shitgaze, OH a few years back, they’ve definitely found their niche as a band that both garage and indie kids can enjoy. We don’t like to label ourselves as “garage” or “indie”, but we are kids. And we do like Times New Viking.

GIRLS

Girls. All I really want is Girls. And in the morning it’s Girls. ‘Cause in the evening it’s Girls. I like the way that they walk. And it’s chill to hear them talk. And I can always make them smile. From White Castle to the Nile. Beastie Boys know exactly how we feel about them. They just had a special record release show today at Amoeba, so if you’re in LA just skip the stream and go get your copy! Just because Matadorks are talking about it, don’t be fooled into think that they’re putting it out! The album’s actually out on True Panther Sound [home to others as Hunx, Ty Segall, Lemonade, etc.] The boys [Girls] are about to head out on a nice European tour, but they’ll be back around the end of October.

Both Album and Born Again Revisited drop a week from today [Sept. 22] Go HERE to stream the albums/make your pre-orders.

SHATTERED DREAMS OR DREAMS OF SHATTERED

Remember a while ago when we mentioned something about a little Shattered Records tour happening soon? Well, our friends over at the Matablog have got all the shiny little deets for us. The tour starts out in a couple weeks on September 28 and runs through October 21, spanning from Boston to LA. It’s a pretty stellar tour that they’ve put together, featuring three of Tennessee’s finest [Jay, Cheap Time, and Useless Eaters]. If this is coming through your town, definitely check it out. Here’s a little gadget-goody we got to give you a little sampling of each band if you’re not familiar already

Check out all the dates here. Or click that thing that says “See Tour Dates”.

METAL UP YOUR ASS

Circle K is awesome. The employees are nice, they never card us for our Mistys, and they don’t care if a bunch of teenage kids hang around for two hours blasting Kill ‘Em All on tape, which is what I did this Saturday night. It would be really cool if they fixed the Icee machine, but I guess it’s too much to ask.

Back to the story. While headbanging to Whiplash I remembered something: Metallica is the fuckin’ shit. Now, I’m not gonna tell you Metallica’s entire history with Mustaine and Cliff and all that junk , but this is them in a nutshell: they pretty much invented thrash, pissed off a bunch of dudes when they cut their hair, went platinum with no help from radio or MTV, and wrote Master of Puppets. In fact, they’re entire career has been pretty much spotless. Except for Load and Reload. Those albums sucked hard.
really really hard.

But lets try to forgot they did that. They’re playing the Sommet Center this Tuesday. We caught them at The Basement before Bonnaroo last year [yeah, it fucking happened and it ruled hard]
If you’re not going, fuck off.

ALRIGHT GUYS…

Expect a serious lack in posts this weekend. We just got back from ATP [saw Suicide, The Feelies, and lots of cool shit] Tomorrow, we’re off to Blue Hill for some fine dining and then to Cake Shop to catch Woven Bones and The Spits! Don’t worry though, our minds might be saying “New York”, but our hearts are always saying “Nashville”. See you on Monday or Tuesday!

WHAT'S UP MILWAUKEE?

Our favorite white, Milwaukeean rapper, Juiceboxxx, just sent us his new video for 100 MPH, his latest single out on IHEARTCOMIX Records. It’s directed by DJ Dougpound from Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! and it rules just as hard as the show. It features lots of street dancers with funky dredz, rolling around town with the top down, and lots of special effects way too technologically advanced for us. You know what we mean [lowers glasses]. Juiceboxxx came through Nashville a little while ago on his way back home from Bamalama Fest, and it was one of the best things that’s ever happened at Little Hamilton [in our completely unprofessional opinion]

Juiceboxxx – 100 MPH (AC Slater Remixxx) [mp3]

You can pickup some Juiceboxxx goodies right over here. And you can order the 12″ for 100MPH right here. You got to just let it out!

WE LIKE OUR COFFEE WITH MINIMAL CREAM

We don’t know if these babes are from Florida, but they’re on a beach and
they rock and roll.

We were doing some heavy reading yesterday on the Internets and came across someone claiming that there are just not really any good bands coming from Florida right now or recently at all. We usually read what these peoples have to say [Is that racist? We don’t mean for that to be racist. It’s just hard to phrase and so sometimes you have to say “these people”, ya’ know? It’s not racist.] and granted, the band they mentioned from Florida totally sucks, but we were just taken back by this claim. Mostly because (1) there are a ton of great bands in Florida right now and (2) there’s a distinctly great swamp sound that seems to only reel through Florida bands. And to deny recognition or acknowledgment to either of those just breaks our little hearts. So, to prove them wrong, here are some Florida bands that rule [off the tops of our heads]:

JACUZZI BOYS:
We’ve talked about these guys a ton, and we don’t even care if you are tired of us talking about them. They rule and their new LP No Seasons on Florida’s Dying [A kickass FLORIDA label] is supposed to come out this October. They’re also playing that little Garage Fest in Portland that we talked about. From Miami, FL.

ELECTRIC BUNNIES:
The Bunnies babes have been around for a while in the Miami area and have put out a handful of solid 7″s over the last 2 years. One of which is a split with Pink Reason [not from Florida]. They make poppy peach jams with a nonchalant, lackadaisical hint to them. In other words, it’s things you want to listen to. There’s definitely a running theme to their artwork, featuring cartoon-y rounded head girls. Like the artwork for the album Through the Magical Door coming out this year on Florida’s Dying.

TEE PEE:
These dudes rule, but we’re a little fuzzy on them. We’ve seen footage of Tee Pee as a one man band with drum machines and other times as a full-on three piece. Whatever. It just adds to the mysterioum of the band and their ghostly sound. They’ve put out primarily cassettes [Jerkwave Tapes] which you won’t be able to easily find, but their slated to release a 7″ with HoZac soon and an LP on Senzei that should be more attainable. The boys in Tee Pee are involved with a bunch of other bands [Melted Sunglasses, Electric Bunnies, Brian’d Dirty Business, Lambda Chi, Free Improvisation, etc.] so check those out, too.

LIL DAGGERS:
These guys are even coming to Nashville soon, come on guys, keep your eyes open! They’re playing Little Hamilton on Oct. 1 with Satan’s Youth Ministers and The Humms. Again, very chuggy fun garage rock. Want some more? Ok, we’ve got some more.

SHIT EAGLE:
1. Look at that name. Who can look at that name and say there are no good bands coming from Florida?? 2. Listen to them. Who can listen to this band and say there are no good bands coming from Florida?? They’ve put out a few 7″s over the last while with Terminal Boredom, Razorcake, and Dusted, and our little earbuds are salivating at the thought of a full-length coming out soon.

SLIPPERY SLOPES:
Still not convinced? Slippery Slopes should do the trick. If you’re a Ty Segall kinda girl, then you’d probably really dig these bad boys. There a little more punk, though, which is fine by us.

OK, we’re running out of energy because all this linking is making us thirsty. These pretzels are making me thirsty! But here are some other Florida babes that we truly dig:

MELTED SUNGLASSES
GHOST HOSPITAL
MAGIC AND THE JOHNSONS
OZZY & THE BOBOS
HOT HANDS

Oh! And don’t even try and convince us that there’s not a good noise/electronic scene in Florida! We know a bunch of the Tampa babes have recently relocated to our fair city, but Florida blood runs thick. Just check out what’s going on over at SAFG with bands like DEEYAY, m(L)u, and Craow.

And the Florida babes really have their shit together. There’s a really rad blag-a-blag that we like to read called Amateur Depression that chronicles most good things in Florida regarding bands like Tee Pee and the aforementioned million other bands. And Miami, Florida is also host to one of our fave festies, So Raw Festival.

HAVE WE MADE OUR POINT YET!? NASHVILLE’S DEAD LOVES FLORIDA! AND WE PROBABLY LOVE YOUR STATE/CITY/TOWNSHIP/SHANTY TOWN/SQUAT, TOO! THERE IS COOL SHIT EVERYWHERE AND WE’RE STOKED ON IT!

CHECK THAT OUT… IT'S 9.9.09!

Isn’t it cool when that happens?! Like last year on 8.8.08, wasn’t that such a fun day?? Yeah, it totally was. And don’t even get me started on 7.7.07.

BUT ANYWAYS, we’re a little busy over here at the ND camp getting ready for this weekend, hence the lack of posts today. We’ve found ourselves in quite a little predicament though: do we see Jay Z at MSG or do we go to ATP for Suicide and The Feelies and others? OK, so it isn’t really that much of a predicament. I mean, Suicide is playing their 1977 Suicide album all the way through. So, duh. Then again, Beyonce is totally our caramel mocha goddess wet dream, and even the thought of running into her at the Jay Z show is a little much for our developing bodies to handle. Hmmm… We’ll let you know what happens.

P.S. Since it’s 9.9.09 and it’s Baja Burrito’s 9th year in business, they’re giving away 1 free meal per customer. Seriously. Go now and wait in line for an hour!
