DO THE WATUSI

You know how worked up we get around here when there’s fresh blood in Nashville, but this one’s really got our engine purring. Dillon Watson [of Kindergarten Circus – Funstix – and BBQ connoisseur fame] has been working up some real rock and roll jams on his own for the last little bit and is gonna be making his way into your head real soon. Like, end-of-this-post soon. The boy wonder sent us a couple tracks to preview and we’ve made them available for your little ears. Don’t say we haven’t been warning you though, “Summer Nights” might be stuck in your head for the rest of the summer. And if it is, that’s nothing to complain about.

D. Watusi – Summer Nights [mp3]
D. Watusi – Claudette (Roy Orbison) [mp3]
D. Watusi – My Dougie [mp3]

No word yet as to when we can expect a debut show, but we’ll go ahead and guarantee that we’ll be in attendance and that we’ll make sure you all know about it in advance. Sound good? Goooooooood. MY DOUGIE? MY DOUGIE.

WHIP IT GOOD

Shhh, shhh….Put away your King of the Beach test pressing and gather ’round while I tell you about the most potent rock and roll band this side of the Golden Gate. If you’re someone worth caring about, you probably care about John Dwyer. Sure he runs Castle Face Records, which is responsible for Ty Segall’s eponymous debut and, most recently, Bare Wires’ Seeking Love LP [coming to Danzig’s Sept. 3rd]. Sure he is the main man for Thee Oh Sees, one of the best psych bands around today. Before all of that though, he was an angry kid just like the rest of us, and it was in those days that he was in the Coachwhips. The most precise description I can give for the Coachwhips is they sound like the Oblivians if the Oblivians were fronted by John Barrett. Got a little bit of a chub already? Yeah, me too. Before you get too excited I’ll go ahead and tell you the band parted ways back in 2005. No worries though, they left us with three LPs and a multitude of 7-inches. Now stop reading my stupid words and listen to those mp3s.

FLY ME TO THE MOON [IN PICS]

Last Monday brought bad boy Cali-babes, Moonhearts, to Nashville and it was one of the sickest shows we’ve caught at Glenn Danzig’s. Even with a three-stringed bass, Mikal Cronin still knew how to rock and roll. Things were a little bittersweet though — this was the last So Jazzy show. We’re a little biased, but whatever — gonna miss So Jazzy everyday. Anyways, Bekah Cope [BC] and Alexa Sullivant [AS] were there taking photos so check them out.

GLOWING BLACK & BLUE

Remember forever ago when Nobunny and PUJOL hit up Third Man for an afternoon of rocking and rolling at Jack White’s house? Well, the live LP is finally available for Nobunny’s set [out of tune guitars, mic drops, and nervous banter included] So do yourself a favor and go snag it or order it here. Nobunny’s album that made him… him – Love Visions – is now available from 1-2-3-4 Go! Records on glow in the dark vinyl. We’ve already got a copy, but knowing that there are only 200 copies of the limited edish glowy ones makes us think we should maybe snag another. And if you feel so inclined, here you go. We wish the jokers over at Third Man would’ve wised up and recorded that PUJOL set and put that out on LP. Then they’d reeeeally have us goin’.

Nobunny’s got a new record, First Blood, coming out in 38 days. Not really sure that this is necessary, but whatever. After doing some quick math, that means it’ll have a September 14th release date.

KEEP IT A SECRET [IN PICS]

Wellll we had hinted at it a little bit last week and twatted about it a couple times, but JEFF played a secret show this past Saturday night alongside Black Patch and Ben Steine’s Money. Apparently… that was the last Ben Steine’s Money show. If you missed out — we’re sure they’re super sorry. Then again, they probably don’t care. JEFF’s been working hard the last couple days in the studio recording their new album which should be out sometime this fall or winter. Stoked? Duh. According to the bad boys, things are sounding pretty grungy. And heavy [as always] Bekah Cope was there snapping shots so check them out below.

JEFF are playing a couple other shows in town this month. Next one to catch is a killer at Exit/In with Screaming Females and Heavy Cream on August 18th. SEE YOU THERE

WE OLD [IN PICS…. AND VID]

Nashville’s Dead – WE OLD from NASHVILLE’S DEAD on Vimeo. Edited by Alexa Sullivant.

Sooooo we’re officially like a year, two weeks, and a day old. That’s pretty good, right? In Interblag-years, that’s like being middle-aged [We’re totally gonna have an e-midlife crisis] But for out birthday, we had that big show with all our buddies and everyone came and packed out The End and Exit/In and we don’t think it could’ve gone any better. PUJOL ended up playing a surprise set at the end of the night, there was tons of new releases available, a special sweetheart baked us a cake, and our new fave bad boy Emmett Miller went around and did his best to capture it all while enjoying himself. That’s what that video up there is [Unfortunately, there’s no Spanish Candles footage or Heavy Cream live footage. Batteries are a beach. Jonasty hooked us up with some PUJOL footage though] Anyways… check out all these photos — and thanks again bigtime [even if you didn’t come or wish us a happy bday]
