GRIMEY'S FALL FESTIVAL

That little rainstorm blew through last night and brought a “cool” front with it [We had to put that shiz quotations because – you know – it’s not really “cool” it’s just like not a million degrees outside] Anyways, we can’t think of anything more worth your time today than heading down to Grimey’s and snagging some cheap records and seeing some free bands. Plus, Mitchell’s is gonna be there. Have you ever had that Turkey-Avocado-Bacon sandwich? Shit RULES! Here’s the lineup:

:: DAVEY UKULELE & GAG TIME GANG (David Mead Kids Project)

:::::: CY BARKLEY
:::::::: APACHE RELAY

TIME FOR A LITTLE CATCH UP

We’ve been reeling all week from announcing the big stuff we’ve worked on for the last week and it’s kept us a little sidetracked from making posts that we should’ve been making. So, with that said, we’re gonna try and make it up to you by posting lots and lots in the next couple hours about shows and in-stores and sales and who’s hot and what kind of Faygo is best and blah blah blah. Gettin drrrty… my biznass

NASHVILLE'S DEAD… YOUR TURNTABLE'S NOT

Poster by Miles Johnson one luv

So we’ve been tweeting and dropping hints for the last couple weeks about how we’ve got something cooking up for Next Big Nashville — well — HERE IT IS! We’ve been tag teaming with the bad boys over at Third Man Records and we’re bringing the two best nights you’ll find of the whole festival. The first night [Friday October 1] features all your favorite local bands along with a couple others. It’s gonna be so sick. Check this lineup:

FRIDAY OCTOBER 1st AT THIRD MAN RECORDS
JEFF the Brotherhood

The Ettes
Cheap Time
Heavy Cream
Cy Barkley

Pretty gnarly, right? Right. Well, Saturday’s just as stacked. We’re bringing in our favorite Miami bebes Jacuzzi Boys to blow everyone outta the swamp again. They were here not too long ago at Glenn Danzig’s House and put on one of the best shows we’ve seen all year. Don’t miss them this time. Here’s the whole night for you:

SATURDAY OCTOBER 2nd AT THIRD MAN RECORDS
Jacuzzi Boys

Turbo Fruits
PUJOL
D. Watusi

So stoked….. but the thing we might be most stoked for [and we can finally stop biting our lips about] IS THAT THE PUJOL LIVE RECORD IS GONNA BE RELEASED AT THE OCTOBER 2ND SHOW! Oh wait — let’s backtrack for a second. Back in May, Pujol opened for Nobunny at Third Man. Unbeknownst to the most of everyone, they recorded the Pujol set too. We’ve heard it and it sounds so killer. Pick up the EP that night…..

You thought we were done?! WRONG! PUJOL’S also gonna release the BLACK RABBIT 7″ as a part of Third Man’s Blue Series that night. The 7″ [produced and recorded by Jack White] features the hits Black Rabbit and Too Safe on it. It’ll be available on plain black and tri-color after the show in the store. Yeesh, so many goodies it feels so good to finally talk about these things. OK, just a couple more huge ones to drop on you — there will be Black & Blues available from these shows, meaning – Yes, there will be more live records. Both shows cost $5 [it’s a part of NBN, but we wanna make sure we get everyone in there for these parties] And you can pick up tickets at the Third Man store. We’ll have more stuff to say about the shows in the coming week– but for now, consider your mind BLOWN.

GET YOUR FREE ON

We’ve got some real big bones to throw your way a little later on today — and to call this show “not a big bone” is pretty wild. The bad boys over at Glenn Danzig’s House decided to pull something together last minute for our Torontomemphian friends Useless Eaters — and it looks like it’s gonna be pretty sick. They also mentioned that some of the bebes from Nylon Magazine are gonna be there hanging out and wanted to see a real Nashville rock and roller show. Oh and Diarrhea Planet – D. Watusi – and Cy Barkley are playing too. AND IT’S FREE. Put the school books down for a little bit and come party hard on a Tuesday night with your friends. FOR THE BEBES.

BLESSING IN DISGUISE

Word on the street is that Vanderbilt and WRVU are looking to sell their broadcasting license and switch to online only. Now there’s really no reason for our radio dials to ever stray from 1470 AM. You can read all about it here. Maybe we should just all pitch in together and buy their license and show them how to really run a radio station. We’re down if you guys are. Apparently you can voice your opinions — but we all know how that went last time… Read it all here.

ASK AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE

We love when you talk about something one day and then the next day — BOOM! We mentioned yesterday in our big GonerFest post that Useless Eaters were gonna be there and that we’d love to see them any and all the time. And then, like some super ‘sperious shit, a free instore gets announced for next week! Since they’re gonna be in town anyways, we’re gonna see if we can’t set up something for them to go down later that night [we’ll keep you posted as to what we come up with] But for now get stoked that the bad boys [and bad girl] are gonna be playing for free for YOU.

JUST FUNKIN'

If that’s not the most perfect prom photo, we don’t know what is. Dam Funk [a Bogus Bro fave] has been making waves in the last while with his house jams. We came across this yesterday though and got super stoked: Stones Throw is releasing a record of Dam Funk tracks that were recorded from 1988-1992 called Adolescent Funk. Looks like we’re gonna have our party playlists reeking of electro-funk this Fall [especially since everyone’s in that whole 90s-revivalist period right now] If any of you know where we can get some tuxes and some girlfriends like that — let us know. The track below and “It’s My Life” were released earlier this year on a 7″ from Circle Star Records. Scoopy

Dam Funk – I Like Your Big Azz (Girl) [mp3]

Adolescent Funk comes out on October 26. If you still haven’t picked up Toeachizown — please do so now. DO IT
