IT'S AUTUMN

Get it. She’s falling.
We’re five days deep into October and it’s already been a blast [Even though the weather dudes were totally wrong about Sunday. A 20% chance of rain!? It rained all day! COME ON!] But October is so great because that’s when Tennessee gets its Fall. We always feel like Tennessee Fall’s only last a week or two, so it’s very important that we all enjoy this time to the max. Our buddy Maggie Lee put together a soundtrack for your Fall this year and our VICE buddies posted it up the other day. It features jams from Tough Knuckles, Sic Alps, Thrones and our favorite Kate Bush song/video.

Along with that, we’ll hit you with a video to one of our favorite Fall-time tunes…

Check the comments for the tracklist. If you want, you can tell us some of your favorite songs to listen to in the Fall-time… you don’t have to though.

GHOUL'S NIGHT OUT

Next Big Nashville is going to wear us out. But, ya know, there’s no time to lose. This Sunday we’re going to try and recover from the night before by non-stop partying. Isn’t that the best way to put off recovery? By just continuing to party through the pain? Yeah, we thought so. We know you babies want to join in so here’s the plan: Atlanta’s Coathangers are playing at Little Hamilton. The Coathangers, a four-piece girl troupe, sound like a revamped riot grrrl garage-y synth punk band with a little bit if UK post-punk garbage. They’ve put out a couple 7″s and an LP with Suicide Squeeze and Rob’s House. We feel like we should make some sort of Bikini Kill reference, and there you go. They’re playing with Heavy Cream, Natural Child, and Wright’s Jambliyeah Fest [they’ll be rocking straight from the Infinity Cat Showcase the night before] Here’s a weird video of the babes on LA Ink….

The Coathangers – Shut The Fuck Up [mp3]

The Coathangers have been on tour with Japandroids and have a new record, Scramble, out now. Man, Coathangers and Heavy Cream might be babe-overload, but we’re willing to take the risk.

WHAT? LIKE CIGARETTES?

So there was this So-Cal San Diego group who played some real old-school-y rock and roll jams [Think if Velvet Underground and Modern Lovers adopted a kid: it’s not related by blood so it doesn’t have the grandeur that comes with that, but it was still raised on the goods] and they called themselves The Muslims. Then they got to be recognized in the primetime and started to catch a lot of guff for their name. So they changed it to The Soft Pack. Same tunes, different name. They’re playing The End tomorrow night and we highly suggest going and checking it out. Here’s the video of their song “Extinction” and a couple mp3s for you to pocket.

The Soft Pack are heading to Europe soon. Check out the dates here.

One of our fave new babes, Don’t Bless Her [formerly of Brooklyn Y’all], posted this portrait she drew of Jemina Pearl that’s going to be on her t-shirts soon. We think that would make a pretty rad shirt. And looking at the portrait got us stoked for our buddies to be back in town. It’s been a good long while since we’ve seen Max flailing around on bass and we’ve only over seen John play guitar with Rain a couple times, so we are definitely pretty psyched to see how the new band goes. You can check out some of their tracks at their myspace here. They’re playing at Exit/In on Saturday, hopefully we’ll find some time to pry ourselves away from the mondo-tasty Infinity Cat Showcase at The End and go check it out.
Jemina & the crew are going on tour with Islands and have a record, Break It Up, coming out on tomorrow. Yeah-hah.

TWO DANS IN ONE NIGHT

Tonight you can catch Dan Deacon and our brethren in darkness, Daniel Pujol, at The End. We’re sure most of you cats are aware of Dan Deacon and his wild shows, so we don’t feel like we need to talk too much about it. If you’ve got a case of the Mondays, go to this show tonight and get a case of the Fun-days [Oh man, send that joke over to TBS] One of our good buddies used to room with Deacon’s little sister. She told us that Dan’s not actually from Baltimore and that he just loves to pretend like he’s from Baltimore. We don’t really care either way.

THE-RUNDOWNThis is a BIG week coming up. It’s officially Next Big Nashville time, so get your wristbands and your cab fare ready [Seriously, take the shuttle or a cab if you’re going to be show-hopping. No reason to be drunk driving.] On top of that, there are alot of non-NBN shows to hit up. Like tonight’s Dan Deacon, Tuesday night’s Soft Pack show, and Sunday’s Coathangers’ show. We are posting a bunch of the NBN showcases here, but we can’t find pricing info for most of the shows. They’re all free with a wristband, but most of them don’t go over $10 sooo YEAH yeah YEAH yeah YEAH!

fge3565g, WE DON'T KNOW WHO YOU ARE… BUT THANKS

Check out this babe’s vids. They rule pretty hard. Especially that video up there from William’s house show a few weeks ago, and the multiple Dude Cruz videos. You know who drums for Dude Cruz? Nathan Vasquez. You know what other band Nathan’s in that we love? Deluxin. They really killed it the other night at Little Hamilton, and it just cemented our belief that Deluxin can never die.

GET OUTTA HERE

OK ladies, we’ve been running around all over town this week trying to get some work done, but today and tomorrow are just too nice of days to spend in here on the interstate super webway. We’re gonna spend the day today over at Grimey’s eating BBQ, partying hard, and buying cheap LPs and then head over to Little Hamilton tonight for a show. Then after that we’re gonna find ourselves some girlfriends. We suggest you do the same. Expect a lot of goodies to come your way next week, including….. fully frontal Next Big Nashville coverage, lots of photos, lots of show announcements, maybe some interview/reviews, and maybe a downloadable mixtape for you babies so you can digital digital get down. Only if you’re lucky though.
