THE GOOD COUNTRY

It’s been a minute since we’ve heard anything out of the Denney & The Jets camp, but it seems like all of a sudden they’re back in full force. Apparently, Denney’s been taking the last while to get together a new backing band [Sean Cotton on lead guitar, Paul Turek on drums, and Mr. Joey Scala on bass] and he’s also been putting together some new tunes. The bad boys will be out playing shows again soon, so get ready. Check out a little preview below.

While we’re at it, we should probably hip you cats to a new act. Joey Scala’s been cranking the bass for Daniel Pujol and Denney for close to a year now, but apparently he’s been sitting on some solo stuff of his own. There’s no myspace and not really a name or anything yet [other than Joey Scala or Joseph Scala or The Scalawag…. we just made that last one up so please don’t call him The Scalawag] but we’ve got a couple tracks for you babes to check out, featuring Pujol on drums. In all seriousness, we probably listened to “You Don’t Try” like 15 times yesterday.

ROCKIN AND BLOCKIN

ROCKBLOCK FLYER

Dudes, we’re so stoked for this. It’s free. IT’S FREE. Forget your LOST Season 6 premieres, you’ve been stuck in your neighborhoods all weekend and now it’s time to say “Hey, kind of icy roads, I’m not that afraid of you. I mean, I’m still gonna drive slow over bridges ’cause that black ice shit is scary, but you know.” PLUS there’s a free afterparty at La Paz [it’s like 3 doors down from Exit/In. Where they used to do Left Can Dance] We’ll be on the ones and twos directly following the show, so come down and get ready to rock to oblivion. A beautiful oblivion.

TEARIN OUR HEARTS OUT

GUTS
Oh man, tonight is seriously getting at our guts. Do we go see our dream babe, Beth, at The Basement tonight while she plays with Times New Viking? Or do we go down to The End and watch Nail Hamburger make stand-up comedy roll over in it’s grave again and again? Either way, we’ve got a tough decision to make tonight. Tomorrow’s choice is a little easier [we’ll talk about that in a minute] Get out tonight! Enjoy the dirty snow and the slush!

MARK YOUR CALENDARS

GonerFest announced the first little batch of bands playing this year’s festival [now in it’s seventh year] along with the dates: Sept. 23 – 26. The tweeted to the tweople across the tweety nation that Australia’s Super Wild Horses, Total Control, and UV Race will be playing. Pretty gnarly, and if it’s anything like last year’s fest it’s sure to be a good time. If you wanna keep up on the latest drops from Gonerfest, follow their twitter. See you in Memphis!

TIME TO BE BRAVE

OK, so first we wake up and mom and pops are like, “HEY KID GET BACK TA BED IT’S SNOWING YEAHHHH!” and then we get on the computer after sledding and the internet’s like, “CHECK OUT THAT NEW PUJOL AND SO JAZZY SHIV!” and then we did and those Danzig Boys were like “HEY CHECK IT! STRANGE BOYS IN APRIL!” Could this day get any better!? Strange Boys have hit Nashville before [back in December of ’08 with Darker My Love at Exit/In] and this time is sure to be a total party. They’ve got a new member [See that girly up there? Doesn’t she look a little Mika Miko-y? It’s ’cause she is] The boys are touring with Spoon and Deerhunter for a little bit and some Chain & The Gang then hitting Nashy after their new LP drops on In The Red. Stoked? Yes. Check out a video of their new single Be Brave out on In The Red/Rough Trade…
