Nashville's Dead

We weren’t able to post up the RUNDOWN for last week because we were super busy putting together some fundraiser shows [and thanks to The Kitty, Halcyon Bike Shop, Rocketown, and a bunch of bands — we raised over $2,500 and received boatloads of clothes, water, non-perishables, and cleaning products. THE VOLUNTEER STATE] We figured this week would be a good way to celebrate how american badass everyone was last week. So lets get out and party in the streets! Summer in the streets!

We’ve been working the last week on putting this together with the baby-babes down over at the new Rocketown and it’s gonna be so sick. Last week’s flood has brought alotta pain to alotta Nashvillians and we’re all trying to do our best to help out. Even if you have nothing to donate or no money, we’re encouraging everyone to just come and hang out in the sun and see that Nashville’s still Nashville. Here’s what’s going on:

SUNDAY MAY 9th

There will be a total of 13 bands on 2 stages playing from 5pm to 9pm. Seriously. It is a free show located at the new Rocketown [522 5th Ave South] but donations are strongly encouraged. Feel free to donate money, clothes, toiletries, and pretty much anything [Canned food, dry food, diapers, baby wipes, blankets, towels, shoes, the goods] All money donated [including the money from this past Tuesday’s show at The Kitty] will be donated to those in need. Our best friends over at Halcyon Bike Shop have volunteered to pitch in and we’re all gonna owe them big time.

GOD FINALLY I CAN FUCKING TALK ABOUT THIS!!! Sorry. We’ve just been keeping our lips sealed for the last forever and it’s been really tough. The dudes at Third Man have setup this badass instore performance with Mr. Nobunny before his show later that night at The Springwater [You know, that show that’s gonna be the best show this summer] Apparently Justin’s gonna be doing an acoustic set at the shop and it’ll get the normal Third Man treatment [record pressing in a limited edition of the number of people that are in attendance in the color of their choosing and Nobunny and PUJOL and Jack White are designing the artwork for each person individually and after the show they’re going to destroy all the copies but one so there’s only one in existence…. just kidding] Anyways. Hit it. It’s gonna rule.

It’s been a bit since we mentioned our baby Beets on here and a lots happened for them in the last couple weeks. For example, that drummer in the picture used to be Jacob but now it is Melissa [if you’ve been to Don Pedro’s recently she’s probably hooked you up with lots of beers] Also, we talked to Juan a while ago and he told us that their new album is done and ready and is good and it will release your spirit animal into the woods like it was always meant to be. Or the sea or sky or something. A Captured Tracks single is expected soon. Just checky that artwork mami. They recently did a little vid-work down in Sacremento with Terroreyes —- CHECK IT BEBES

The bad boys and Scaduter will be heading out on a couple tours this summer [one with Mountain Goats — dates here] and we’re doing out best to bring them back to town. Happy but on my way.

We been trying to think of ways to bring people’s spirits up around here and we thought, “We always feel better when we’re hanging out in the sun in the summer listening to some hot jams with all the babes and ….. ” So let’s talk about some of our favorite Summer Jams, right? I mean, we could go on for days and days and we’re gonna leave a bunch out and whatever… but this is what we’re listening to today and it’s summer in full effect over at the Deadquarters.

That’s just a little summer sweetness for you. We’re jamming lots of Jacuzzi Boys and JTB lately too [the new singles are killer] same with Heavy Cream’s new LP.

We teamed up with some babies a while ago to setup this show that’s going on tonight. It was originally supposed to be a fundraiser for Dress to Impress [helping people fresh outta the slammer to get new clothes so they can go to job interviews and look sharp] but since this weekend happened, we’ve gone ahead and changed it to a flood relief show. We’re setting up another one for this weekend, but go ahead and come to both because they’re totally gonna rule. And the money will go to real places and real people. Really real.
