DAN MELCHIOR UND DAS FREE

Dan Melchior at CakeShop

We love free stuff. Especially when it’s a free record from Dan Melchior und das Menace. Their new LP, Catbirds and Cardinals, was supposed to see a vinyl release sometime this year but it looks like that’s not really panning out. When life gives you unpressed records — make lemonade. They instead sent the record over to the bebs at WFMU’s Free Music Archive where you can download the whole thing for free. We’ve been blasting it this week and it’s sounding like one their most solid efforts — hopefully it’ll see vinyl treatment before too long so we can pick it up and spin it on the ones and twos all the time. If you’d like to download the new record — go here.

BREAKIN’ HEARTS – HEARTS ATTACKIN’

If you’ve been paying attention to the interwebs this week, you probably noticed a lot of talk about our favorite Mississippi bad-boys, Bass Drum of Death. Word on the street is that they’re gonna have their full length debut this February courtesy of Inflated Records. We can’t wait. Especially after hearing a little teaser off of the new record [which you can check out for yourself below] They should be rolling through Nashy sometime in the not-too-distant-future, but we’ll keep you posted. If you haven’t picked up the High School Roaches EP that came out earlier this year from Baby Don’t — do yourself a favor and snag it before they’re all gone.

There’s not a solid release date yet, but keep your eyes peeled. Gonna be a good February.

FEELS GOOD, MAN

Feels good, man

Aaaahhhhhh…. this feels nice. It’s like a whole new world in here. About a year ago, we switched from a blogspot to a dot-com. This year we’re switching from a dot-com to a dot-bomb [Don’t worry guys, we might look professional and all real-deal now, but we still can’t help but make the worst jokes] Forillytho. Greg Thornton and Josh Shearon are the guys responsible for the aesthetic delight you’re currently experiencing — and we’re forever grateful for that. Feel free to take a look around the new digs and let us know what you think. We’ll be making a few more changes in the coming weeks and introducing some new sections [Dead Air, Mindless Contentment, blah blah blah] So get stoked. If that doesn’t get you going — then maybe realizing that there’s a “store” up there will do the trick. We’ll announce our first “product” at the end of the day today.

CAN’T GET SAD – WE GOTTA KEEP ON MOVIN’

We are Natural Children until we die. The boys left earlier today for their first West Coast tour and we’re gonna miss them real bad until they come back home around Thanksgiving [click below to get a list of their tour dates] We don’t like getting all personal and sentimental on here, but this band really holds a special significantly sized portion of our heart. We could go more into it — but this is the internets and the last thing anyone needs more of is people trying to make someone actually feel something through the blag-a-blag. KnowwhatImean? As a special treat — we have this brand new Natural Child song for you [it even features a certain DD666 — uh huh] Look for it to come out soon on their VICE/Scion 7″ split with The Strange Boys.

Natural Child – The Jungle [mp3]

Come home soon, boys. One luv. This song saved our spirits last night and that is the honest truth.

NASHY’S IN BETWEEN

It has been a good while since we’ve seen Dean and Randall. Feels like we must have seen them a dozen times a couple years ago and haven’t seen them ’round town much at all. They played Mercy Lounge with Bows & Arrows and Deerhunter back in 2007 and they’re making their return this January. Three and a half years seems like a long enough time to wait to come back to Nashy, right? I mean, granted the turnout of their show here a few years ago was sparse [that’s putting it politely] but they totally killed. Their new record, Everything In Between, just came out on SubPop — snag it here — it comes with some pretty wild packaging too. We gotta hunch that those Bows & Arrows boys will be playing this one too. Here’s No Age’s WFMU set from a little bit ago, and a real good video from a longer little bit ago…

CLAMS DISHING JAMS

Everyone’s favorite crooner-babe, Shannon & The Clams, have got two new 7″s coming out at the end of the month and are heading out on a national tour this week. Unfortunately for us, it’s not bringing them to Nashy at all. Trust us though, we tried. We sorta lied at the beginning of this… one of the 7″s isn’t new, it’s just a repress of their Hunk Hunt 7″ [which you mighta missed out on because it sold out prettttty quick] The other one if a Christmas single for the books. The bebes do their own rendition of “Blue Christmas” and we gotta say they do a pretty good job of maintaining the sincerity and country soul of the song. Check out a couple tracks here, and click down there for all their tour dates…

Both of the 7″s come courtesy of 1-2-3-4-Go! Records. Scoop em here.

ROCK AND ROLL BEACH

If you were having trouble trying to figure out what you wanna do this Saturday night, the dudes over at Danzig’s have got it covered for you. Albeit a sort of last minute show — we’re still psyched. We don’t know what the deal is, but it feels like we’ve seen more Turbo Fruits shows lately than Heavy Cream, Natural Child, Pujol, and JEFF shows combined. Not like we’re complaining though, Jonas and the guys bring it everytime and get better and better. Detroit’s Deadbeat Beat are gonna roll through too and D. Watusi, Big Surr, and Reid Magette are gonna round out the rest of the bill. Word on the street is that those Watusis are gonna be recording their set for a release — make sure to scream all your favorite obscenities.

Please note that it’s listed as 7PM, we’ve been told it’ll start promptly right around 8:00.
