TIS THE TURBO SEASON

It’s t-shirt turbo tiiiiime! Jonas told us today that the new set of Turbo Time singles are slated to drop in just a couple weeks [Dec. 14] This time around, PUJOL’s offering up a single for “MayDay” and Turbo Fruits are releasing “Keepin’ On”. You can check out both songs at their respective myspaces, and hear for yourself that both these singles are worth snagging. Apparently there’s gonna be some limited edition glow in the dark ones too. This must be just a crazy match made in heaven or something — the two bands are about to go out on their third tour together for a little while [dates are posted below] and word on the street is that they’re also releasing a split Christmas single [an original Christmas jam from PUJOL and Fruits are covering Darlene Love’s hit] Be on the lookout. The other word on the street? Other word on the street is that they’ve got something up their sleeves for New Year’s.

SAM’S MYTH

It’s really no secret that Sam Smith is one of this city’s best poster artists. From movie posters to show fliers to whatever — dude always has his swag on. He’s having a gallery/poster showing at The Belcourt all this month and we couldn’t recommend checking it out more. Bad boy’s also been working on a lot of new stuff for those nerds over at Criterion [did the House art and the Modern Times art and the Everlasting Moments art — ace work if you ask us] The posters are supposed to go up today, so grab a date and go see a movie and look at cool posters and blah blah blahhh… Click below to see some of our favorites he’s done.

LIVING IN A VILE NATION

VILE NATION PT. II

Mmmmm yung humma. Useless Eaters are on a roll right now. Every time we turn around it seems like the new kid on the block has got another gem just waiting for us. This time it’s a tune called “Vile Nation Pt. II” and its pretty sick. Getting an Oh Sees sort of vibe from it. In more Vile Nation news, the actual band Vile Nation [which Seth is also a part of] put out a new 6-song record a couple months ago on Even Worse Records and it kills. Straight Memphis punk in the only way Memphis knows how. Scoop it. Oh and Useless Eaters also have a new single coming out soon from uhhh us real soon. Remember?

FROM BRUSSELS WITH LOVE

FM-BX SOCIETY TAPE

We’re always stoked on just about anything that comes out of the SS Records camp, but when we came across this new compilation we were pretty blown away. It’s a vinyl release of the 1981 cassette FM-BX 001. It was the first in a series of cassettes put out by a radio station in Brussels, Belgium and features three bands: Isolation Ward, Unit 4, and The Topplers. We’ve only ever heard of Unit 4, but we’re banking on the other two to be equally as great. If you’re feeling like doing the right thing — pick up a copy here. There are only 500, so you might want to get on it.

ROCK AND ROLL WIRES SCHOOL

There’s always gonna be a strong connection between rock and roll and high school aesthetic because most rock and rollers never make it out of high school. We don’t know if we’ll ever make it out. Bare Wires just put out a new video yesterday [featuring an all-star cast of a Black Belle, a Sandwitch, and a Principal Dwyer] for the song “Don’t Ever Change”. The song’s nothing revolutionary, just a straight-forward sweetheart pop song. But the video is worth checking out if only for the bettys. I guess it’s also worth checking out for John Dwyer’s pee scene though. Patrone kills it too.

MORE GAUZE MORE GAUZE A LITTLE MORE GAUZE

Yes, another Ty Segall post. Yes, you can skip to the mp3 or videos if you want. A buddy of ours over at Skihouse Media just sent us a couple videos from that show at The End a couple months ago [Remember it? It was the best show this year] It reminded us that Ty also just had a cassette-only release come out not too long ago [Don’t worry, it’ll see a vinyl release soon enough. The only catch is you have to sign up for that record club we mentioned forever ago to get it] Titled San Fransisco Rock Compilation or Food or Weird Beer From Microsoft, It’s supposed to be Ty’s “experimental” material, but it still sounds pretty sick to us. Check out those videos and go about a minute-twenty into the track below to hear a real mind ride of a Ty song.
