GONNA BE A PARTY IN THE BACKSEAT

If you’re having trouble figuring out what to do tonight, you’re not alone [Howlies at The Basement, Sanctions last show at Little Hamilton for free, Big Diarrhea Donohue Surr Evan Planet at The End…] We know where we’ll be, but we figured that instead of us trying to tell you why you oughtta go, we should just let the boys tell you for themselves… We asked them for a sentence each on what tonight at The End will be like. It won’t make sense, but it’ll be a party…

Taking a backseat to the usually jam it in your ass and leave it in the….backseat Friday night, get in the front seat and live your dreams like the boss you were created to be! Bring your shag-face for Helen, win the price of mercy! Lots of random forced singing! It’s kind of like bringing Tibetan prayer flags to a gun-fight.

Thanks, frndz. In other Diarrhea Planet related news — they’ve got their Aloha EP coming soon from Evil Weevil Records along with their full length, Loose Jewels, sometime in the 2k11. Get stimulated.

CAUGHT IN A TIDAL WAVE

It’s been a minute since we’ve heard from the Cannomen camp, but we’ve got the scoop on a lot of new stuffs for you. Nashville’s best punk band have a new 7″ single called Sex On The Bleach coming soon from Fat Sandwich Records [Have you guys ever had a fat sandwich? Like from the grease trucks in New Brunsy? So good] There’ll only be 300 of these so make sure you jump on it quick. They should have copies available at their show on January 3rd at Glenn Danzig’s House. We’ve gone ahead and posted “Tidal Waves” and the artwork below. As the title suggests, it’s some of the Cannomen’s surfiest gnarliest stuff yet. Word on the street is that they’ve got another 7″ coming shortly after this one from a hometown hero — so keep your eyes peeled. If you haven’t caught the bad boys lately, they’re playing alongside Cy Barkley, Ex Humans, Foster Care, and Natural Child this Saturday at Glenn Danzig’s House. Click down there for the artwork and a list of upcoming shows…

THE MEN ARE WE

THE MEN

We first heard The Men a while back when a buddy of ours sent us a download for their debut 12″ – We Are The Men. At that point, we’d never seen them play a show or knew anything about any of the members and, to be honest, were just kind of “whatever” about it. Since then, we’ve seen them and heard a number of their cassette releases [their split cassette with Nomos is killer] and their other record, Immaculada [which you can now pick up a repress of here] We caught word today that the bad boys have finished their third LP and it’ll see release in the new year from Sacred Bones. If you’re into crude noise-y Wipers-plus-MBV-plus-hardcore slime, check them out. Here’s a couple tracks from the boys [including a Devo cover] They’re slated to do a West Coast tour shortly after we switch to the 2k11, dates below…

MURR KRIMMUH FROM MEMPHA

If there’s one thing we love from Memphis, it’s Sun Records studio. If there’s another thing, it’s The Kang. If there’s two more things, it’s barbq and Goner. Eric and the dudes from Goner put together this video to help you shop for all the nerds in your life, or to help you construct your wish list — either way… Like they say in the video, all the releases are available online from the Goner store [most of them are also available from Grimey’s though — so be sure to check that first] If anyone wants to snag us a couple of those new Firestarter 7″s from Shit Sandwich, feel free.

ERRBODY GET YOUR POLL ON

ERIC ENGLAND

It’s been a good year for Nashville and for rock and roll… we think. This week’s Nashville Scene issue is the annual Rock N Roll Poll and we highly suggest going out and scooping it up. You can read a bunch of outtakes from it right over here. There was a lot of love thrown our way from different people and we wanna say thanks big time for that — so, thanks bebes. Anyways, go read it and see who you agree with or disagree with and then just remember that the fact is: Ty Segall killed The End this year and it was undoubtedly the best show to happen in TwentyTen.

TROUBLE ALL THE TIME

Jeffrey & The Paperhead: Photo by Bekah Cope

We love when good things happen to good bands. We love it even more when great things happen to great bands. So when we woke up this morning and saw that our fave babes at Trouble In Mind just announced that they’ll be releasing The Paperhead’s new LP and a 4-song EP for Jeffrey Novak, we couldn’t have been more stoked for them. You already know that we are huge Paperhead fans [we’ll have their debut 7″ out in mid-January] and maybe after these releases you’ll be able to understand exactly why. The boys sent us their new record [which was actually recorded and produced by Jeffrey Novak] a few months ago and we’ve listened to it through-and-through a couple times a week atleast. It’s so killer. Along with that, news of a new Novak solo EP has got our hearts pitter-pattering. We’re not sure if they’ll be songs from the After The Ball sessions, or if Jeffrey’s been working up some new material. Either way — guaranteed to be worthwhile.

We could rattle off a bunch of other releases that Trouble In Mind has done, but just go to their site and take our word for it that they’re one of the best new labels going. Here’s a track from The Paperhead’s cassette, Focus In On…, which you can buy here.

IT’S TIME TO GO SO LOW

DAVILA666 AT DON PEDRO'S

Speaking of February releases [you know, like the new JEFF record, the new Bass Drum of Death record, the debut D. Watusi single, and a couple other for-sure hits] our favorite Puerto Rican bad boys have got a new record coming from In The Red in the month of love. If you’ve been keeping track, Davila 666 have been putting out a pretty steady stream of solid releases since their debut LP came out in 2008: singles from HoZac and Douchemaster and an EP off Rob’s House — all of which are pretty killer. Anyways, their new record, Tan Bajo, is coming out in the first week of February and we should all be expecting the bad boys to come through Nashy on their next tour. We all remember how wild it was last time, so get stoked. Scoop some records.

BASED ON THE DRUM OF DEATH

BASS DRUM OF DEATH

We’ve already made mention on here about the new Bass Drum of Death record that was announced a little while back, but now we’ve got some artwork to go along with it. Looks good to me, and I’m sure a bunch of teeny-bopping garage punk girls are down with it too [John and Colin are such dreamboats] The record’s slated for a February release in the new year from Inflated Records, and we’re thinking about maybe trying to convince the badboys to come to Nashville for a release show. How do you ladies feel about that? Good. Here’s a track from John’s latest 7″ off Baby Don’t Records that you can still scoop up here.
