Bebs, it’s cold out. We just got home last night from a rad tour with Natural Child [we’ll talk about that and their new cassette and Mexico tomorrow though] We’ll also hit you with The Rundown tomorrow, and lots of other goodies [maybe a Heavy Cream tracklisting, maybe some new bands to get your give-a-damn going, and maybe…. just maybe…. a couple of interviews. We’re a real something!] On that note, let’s all go grab a real bed and sleep for a little while and dream about the Liquor Store, Scapegoat, Highest Power, Brainkiller show happening tomorrow night at Glenn Danzig’s House.
SLAYER SHOW POSTPONED
Dammit. Dammit. Dammit. You read that correctly. The Slayer show has been postponed. One night out of the year your inner 13 year old is given the chance to go wild with all of the privileges of being your current twenty-something self (read: BOOZE). Now Slayer’s bass player has gone and ruined it all just because he has to have back surgery. I guess all of you heshers and heshettes will just have to wait a few more months. Serves you right for buying all the $10 tickets before we could snag one. We’ll let you know once the rescheduled date has been announced.
THE WEEKEND
First of all, none of you should be reading this post till at least 2pm, because it’s a snow day. “Big deal,” one might say, “I haven’t had an algebra quiz in years.” Well geezer, it is a big fucking deal, as I go to a non metro school and haven’t had a snow day since the fifth grade. Anyways, there’s some grrreat shows happening this weekend, and we want you to know about it.

O’Pioneers holds a special place in my heart. When I was a young child of fifteen, my good buddies from Gnarwhal took me to a new venue called the Meemaw House, where I saw Marj! [Ryan Davidson drooled on my face], and Wes’s pre-Meemaw band Cowboy Dynamite [which we agreed was a terrible name for a not terrible band]. I had to leave before Meemaw played [fuck you mom] [edit: sorry mom], but I was able to catch a couple songs from a band called O’Pioneers. Now, I really should remember what they sound like because this show happened last week, but my memory has dissolved into the mists of time, so decide for yourselves.

Everyone at Nashville’s Dead would like to say something before we get on with the show: this poster is the bee’s knees. It’s fucking awesome. It’s like if an 80’s hardcore kid took more than thirty seconds to make a flyer after watching too many David Lynch films. We love it so hard.
‘Enuff of that tangent. MLU is one of the most under-reported and underrated bands in Nashville right now, and any chance to see them is a blessing from Christ himself [because Jesus was totally into noise, it says so in Corinthians]. They’re bringing up some really good bands from florida right now, and anybody who enjoyed that January 2nd show [Failures, Aerosols, Salvation, etc….. pics coming soon] would enjoy this one. Nazi Dust and Slavescene will totally wreck your shit.

CHECK IT OUT: IT'S ANOTHER PHOTO POST[O]
This was New Years Eve ’09 [or was it ‘010? I dunno how that works]
the pixxx aren’t assorted in any real order because wordpress hates me, but the bands were Wizardz, Natural Child, Daniel Pujol, CY, So Jazzy, Bad Cop, and Moonstone
foe-toes courtesy of miss Bekah Cope
The show was awesome. At least, I think it was awesome. All I really remember is glitter and smoke and spandex and not getting smooched and man named DK Sack mistaking me for Mimi from Heavy Cream. Oh yeah, and Wizards/Wizardz/Saigon Baby/Cygone Baybee played for an hour and made everybody leave. Pussies. I dunno where most of the photos of the first two bands went. A real shame, Moonstone wuz a real gem.
SOMETIMES YR HANDS GET CLAMMY…. SOMETIMES YR RECORD PLAYER GETS CLAMMY
SHANNON AND THE CLAMS
A few weeks ago, Forever Young and I were whining like bitter, old men about current pop records. The gist of the conversation was that no one is writing good “sha la la la” pop songs anymore. That is, no one is writing good “sha la la la” pop songs anymore without totally fuzzing them out (i.e. that band Wavves ripped off, that band that ripped off Wavves, the dudes that ripped off those guys, etc.). Don’t get me wrong. I lub me some fuzz. I just also lub me some wholesome doo-wop tinged pop.
Enter Shannon and the Clams. Jessi Darlin hipped me to this Oakland, CA band only a few days after the aforementioned conversation, and they’ve been keeping my turntable a’spinning ever since. Simply put, they are golden. Shannon belts it like she thinks she’s Ronnie Spector or something, but be careful when listening… You may mistake Shannon’s sultry croon with that of Clams’ guitarist Cody Blanchard. Dude’s got some pipes (plays a mean guitar too). From what I can tell, they’ve released their first full-length, a 7-inch on Weird Hug Records, and now their latest offering, I Wanna Go Home, on 1-2-3-4-Go! Records. I’ve only heard the newest LP, but I will totally vouch for it being one of the best releases of ’09. Those Danzig boys need to bring THIS BAND to Nashville. Maybe Ty Segall could pack them up in a suit case next time he comes through town. They only live a bridge away from him. C’mon, anything. Wanna see ’em. Gotta see ’em.
SHEESH
So, duh, it is hard to post on this thing from the road. I mean… wake up, take my vitamins, put my smelly clothes back on, and sit in the car for 5 hours, then party for another 5. And when those things happen, it means that posting goes down a pretty significant amount. BUT! I’ve got access right now to just go ahead and talk about some good things coming up soon….
NEW JEFF VIDEO
Baby baby baybeeeez just put up their video for “The Tropics” [one of the 9 singles on Heavy Days… seriously, that shit is like a Greatest Hits] It features lots of our fave local rockers just hanging and rasslin’ and gettin’ dirty. Check it out below. The boys did a guest DJ set on WRVU and mentioned a something that made us change our pants: 1. A possible [pretty probable] split to come soon with Ty Segall. Yeah ya-yuh.

MEEMAW REUNION
Yeah, we posted about this yesterday, but we’ve been so stoked for the last two weeks and have had our lips stapled shut about it, so excuse us for talking about it everyday until it happens [and probably a few days after it happens] Anyways, Mr. Shreditorial, Daniel Pujol, has promised a press release regarding the show to come soon. You’ll get it as soon as we do. And you know, just for technicality’s sake, it’ll have been 343 days since the last Meemaw show. Are we allowed to get this stoked for a reunion of a band who’s been broken up less than a year? DUH.
HEAVY CREAM LP
The dream team creamers posted earlier that they’re going to be recording their first full-length this week. It won’t come out until spring/summer time, but that’s what? Like, 3 or 4 or 5 or 6 months away? We couldn’t be more stoked. Our needles have already worn through like 3 copies of the 7″, but whatever. Hopefully we’ll have a for-sure tracklisting later this week. We know all the songs that are going to be on there, just not the order yet. You know, gotta be pros about this shit.
SHOWS THIS WEEK
Tonight with Mattress and Looks Like a Snake! and everyone
The 7th at The End with Heavy Cream and Deluxin’ and some others
The 9th at Little Hamilton with Slave Scene and Nazi Dust [If you enjoyed that Frustrations/Aerosols/Salvation show, you NEED to go to this. Speaking of that show, we’ll have photos from OUR photographer Bekah Cope along with some words soon]
That’s it for now, hopefully this place doesn’t explode to any bigger of a shitbomb than it already is. SEE YOU AT THE SHOWS!
MOM WON'T LET US OUT ON SCHOOL NIGHTS
Every once in a while I come across a band that I never heard of and get very angry at myself. “WHY THE FUCK DIDN’T I THINK OF [USING/PLAYING/EATING] A [GUITAR/BASS/TRASHCAN] WITH A [GUN/BANJO STRING/FLANGER]? MATTRESS happens to be one of those bands, and proves New Brunswick is the best place in all of New Jersey [except for the Shore]. They’re playing with Mr. Pujol and some other locals tomorrow night at a little venue called The Rabbit Hole.I hope they can fit their double-bass in the dining room.
