OOOH LA LA LIMINANAS

THE LIMINANAS

Oh, Oh homme j’aime Liminanas qu’ils sont de la France et de parler français et pour faire de beaux art garage pop. Sorry, we got lost in our French love for Liminanas. There’s just something about summer that makes us want to listen to dreamy French bebes sing to artsy fartsy garage songs. Know what I mean? Marie and Lionel Liminana do. They’ve released a couple singles in the last little while [one with Trouble in Mind and their latest with HoZac, which we definitely suggest scooping] and have got a couple more releases lined up to come soon. Word on the street is that Trouble In Mind are planning to release The Liminanas debut LP later this year, which would be the first non-7″ release from TIM. CRAZY! No word as to when we should expect the bad babes to come stateside again, but hopefully it’ll be sooner than later.

MELLOW OUT WITH ME

Man oh man we are stoked for tonight. It’s like this is the official kickoff of our summer or something, ya know? Back to the days of cheap shows at The End with all your favorite bands and getting sweaty and having DD666 land on your head. The best thing about this show though is that all the money made will be going towards helping bad babes Battletapes and Candice Burnside [If you haven’t seen/heard about the situation, please inform yourself here] We’re working on some extra special treats to come from this show, but we can’t really disclose anything just yet. But whatever, come out and support a good cause and have the time of your summer. See you tonight.

BABY, YOU GOT A STEW GOIN'

Designed by Josh Shearon

Can we just go ahead and say that The Parsonage is quickly becoming one of our favorite new places to catch shows? I mean, their inaugural show featured a blood-bath Natural Child set, their follow-up show was a pitch-black, punks-in-the-dark School Jerks show, and now their third is going to be with a two of our favorite Atlanta bands — Predator and Balkans. Looks like we spoke a little too soon, this show’s going down at The Black Church. Predator have been making the rounds the last little while with a couple releases from Rob’s House [including their new EP which you can scoop here, and their 4-way split with Black Lips, Carbonas, and Gentlemen Jesse <—- that’s a fucking 4-way split!] Apparently these bad boys were the highlight of the Mess Around that took place a few weeks back. We believe it. Balkans rock and roll around the town but in less of a harsh way. Does that make sense? I guess we’re getting at they’re not as “in your face” but maybe more just “in your record collection” because it’s good to listen to. After re-reading that last sentence, it’s time for us to go to bed. Balkans have a bunch of 7″s and free downloads available from their myspace page. Hit it. See you at the show!!

NOT THAT USELESS

Whale wail welll, our favorite Memphis transplant-ian recently moved on up to Toronto and has found himself a whole new backing band [That drummer looks pretty familiar though] As is the case with these things most of the time, a new band means new songs — and the new Useless Eaters songs we’ve heard have us super stoked for when they come to town in a couple weeks. Eaters have a couple releases under their belt [that super sold out Agoraphobic 7″ on Goodbye Boozy and the recently released Sucked In 7″ on Goner] and we’ve heard plans of more records to come soon. No word as to who will be putting them out [Shattered? Sweet Rot? More Goner? Who knows] but we’ll scoop them regardless. Check out some of their new tunes here, and get stoked for their show coming soon by watching this video of the bad boys from GonerFest [featuring Mr. Reatard. Miss ‘im everyday]

GOT MAD UPS [IN PICS]

Last week we were super stoked for the Harvey Milk, Gaza, Modern Hell, Converge show and then we heard that Harvey Milk had dropped off and we were like “Whatever. Still stoked” And rightfully so. Out photographer, Bekah Cope, was there snapping photos left and right and she managed to capture just about 1/2 of all the jumping rock and rolling, know what I’m sayin’? Anyways, check the digs. Oh and if you haven’t checked out Modern Hell yet — do it.

SUMMER SUBURB

So we happened across the Ryman’s website today to see if maybe they’d changed the prices of the remaining Neil Young/Bert Jansch tickets to like $FREE [which they didn’t — bummer] but we noticed something else pretty interesting. Apparently, Arcade Fire are going to happen through Nashy the day after they perform in Chicago at this year’s Lollapalooza. We saw the million-piece baroque pop quiver vocal hurdy gurdy playing bad babes like 4 years ago in Chicago and we gotta say that it was pretty impressive. Anyways, just keeping you posted. For more Arcade Fire news, just read every other blog!

SWAMP BUGGY BEBES

Everybody’s favorite Louisiana dream duo, Quintron & Miss Pussycat, are coming to Nashville this Thursday to play alongside The Mattoid and FTFO. Needless to say, it’s gonna be a ball and we’re gonna bring our own puppets and show Quintron how much our puppetry skills have grown since the last time he came through [We think that was back a couple years ago with Black Lips at Mercy Lounge. Could be wrong. Prolly not wrong.] They’re also gonna be tag-teaming the east coast with the Bogus Bros for about a month [all tour dates are listed after the jumper] One of our favorite things about Quintron is his Drum Buddy. Watch that video and see what we’re talking about. It’s pretty cool.

Now, we all know you’re wanting to hit this show up and trying to figure out how to sneak in and not have to pay the cover — so here’s an easy solution. We’ve got a pair of tickets to give away! Weird, right? No underage kiddies [meaning under 18] Email us at nashvillesdead(at)gmail(dot)com and tell us your favorite thing about Louisiana. Winner wins.
