ROAD TREAT

We’re still out on the road with the Bogus Bros and the Natural Childs, but we figured we’d take a minute real quick to share a little treat we found. It’s an old French 7″ from 1979 and features a cover of “Great Balls of Fire” and “Witch Woman”. Gotta say, this cover is fucking gnarly — but Witch Woman is outta this world. Lucky enough for you, someone found this 45 a little bit ago and ripped it for your listening pleasures. Enjoy!

And we’ll see you soooooon!

PIZZA PARTY//PIZZA SUMMER

Many of you know local amigo Ryan Sweeney to be the drummer for In the Red favorites Cheap Time, but did you know he is THE GENE SHALIT OF LOCAL PIZZA?!?! Aww yeah, that’s right…Sweeney, in response to taunting caused by his steady diet of chicken nuggets and pizza, has set himself on a mission to eat at as many pizza places in Nashville this summer as possible, and lucky for us, he’s reviewing them all, 21st century-style. Have you played at the End a million times and every time wondered if Oblio’s is any good? BOOM HE’S GOING THERE THIS WEEK. Are you burnt out on freezer pizza but too poor to eat anything else? BOOM HE’S EATING AT FANCY PLACES THAT ARE LIKE FIFTEEN BUCKS. Just read his review while eating that Tombstone and your Tombstone will taste less cardboard-y. Ryan Sweeney: drummer, critic, but most importantly, community care-taker. PIZZA SUMMER!

GET YOUR KICKS

It’s really blowing us away how every week we get to see a show that totally floors us. We got our kicks on last night for Jacuzzi Boys, Turbo Fruits, PUJOL, and Funstix [we know you did too… thanks for showing up, Nashville] Anyways, don’t expect too much from the Deadquarters this week. We’re heading outta town for a bit to tag along on the JEFF/Natural Child tour. What you should expect is some sweet pics from this week’s past shows. Yeah. So keep your shoes on and don’t let our absence get you down — we’ll be back in a week.

BRING US TO THE SWAMP

You know this is going to be the best show ever. Don’t kid yourself. We’ve been gushing about Jacuzzi Boys for approximately two years now [ever since we picked up that split they did with King Khan forever ago] and we’ve been doing our best to get the bruisers up here for a show for a loooong time. And tomorrow it’s finally happening. At Glenn Danzig’s House. With PUJOL, Turbo Fruits, and Funstix. Thank you. Seriously —- thank you.

CAUSIN' A SCENE

So word around town is that epitome-of-lazy-90s-pop-tie my shirt around my waist and miss my babe-band, The Mad Scene, are back together to record and release a new record. The Mad Scene is comprised of members of both The Clean and The Go-Betweens, which means these guys have been around the block a couple times. It’s been quite a while since they’ve put anything out [1995] but their new record will be put out in the next bit with Siltbreeze. Sometimes it’s good to get the old guys in there to show the new bebes how it’s done, know what I mean? No official release date as of now, but hopefully it’ll come out around the same time as when we pull our sweaters out of the closet.

Maybe we can make this like a new monthly thing? We’re down if you’re down, Predator. The Atlanta punksome duo were just here a couple weeks ago and they’re already getting ready to head out again, this time with their hometown babies – The Coathangers. As far as we can tell, that weekend’s gonna be a total blast [word on the street is that there’s a Bass Drum of Death/Thomas Function show the next night at The End — we’ll keep you posted] The Coathangers have a new 7″ coming out soon on Die Slaughterhaus. We don’t know what the deal is, but we feel like Coathangers have started to drift away from their synthy-girl pop jams more towards airy 90s sing-songy beach jams. Could be wrong, but whatevers. Hit the show and eat your vegetables [that is one of our favorite songs ever]

HAAAAAAAAAARD

Artwork by Alexa Sullivant

If that’s not one of the most beautiful things we’ve ever seen…. There’s a new release scheduled to come out soon from Infinity Cat that’s going to be a split release with PUJOL + Wez and Little Bear. We haven’t heard Little Bear’s share on Sexttape yet, but we have definitely heard Puj+Wez’s side and we gotta say that this is one of the more interesting releases you’ll probably hear this year. The dudes got together to shell out a few tracks that will make you rethink the way you open your mind. Pujol had this to say about the cassette and working with Wez:

“He keeps me out of jail. This proves that our love is invincible.”

And now, for your listening pleasure, two tracks from Sexttape [Peter Panzer didn’t make the cut, but features Wes on bass and Jake Orrall on guitar.]

GOIN GOIN GONER

We’ve been doing our best to keep you up-to-date on all the happenings with this year’s Gonerfest [now in it’s 7th year and slated to go down Sept. 22 – 26] and so we’re stoked to be able to give you a glimpse of a much fuller roster than last time. So far, it looks like this year’s gonna be a total shmorgishborg of killer punk bands from around the world [3 Australian bands, Guitar Wolf from Japan, bands from Mexico and Italy — blah blah blah] There’s still lots of sweet hometown goodies that are going to be a party of the action, including Nashville’s own Dave Cloud. We’d kill for them to just every other year or something throw on some of that North North and get one of the bad boys like Juicy J or the Scarecrow or someone to take a part in the party. Then we’d no doubt be sold. See you there!!

Japan’s legendary
GUITAR WOLF

From Australia
SUPER WILD HORSES
TOTAL CONTROL
UV RACE

The UK’s legendary
ARMITAGE SHANKS

Philadelphia’s amazing
