THE FREAKIN' WEEKEND, BABY

Well, we’ve been working on this for a little while now and we think it’s time to go ahead and announce it with you bebes…. we’ve put together the first ever FREAKIN’ WEEKEND! We know what you’re thinking, “Every weekend is the freakin’ weekend, dummies.” You’re right, but this one….. Ohhhhh this one is gonna be a caps-lock, R Kelly’s “Remix to Ignition” stylee freakin’ weekend.. THE FREAKIN’ WEEKEND. Here’s the skinny…

The first night of THE FREAKIN’ WEEKEND will kickoff on Friday March 12 at The Jungle [also known as aka The Sweetbriar House] There will be bands, there will be jams, it will be free, you will have fun… Night two will take place at Glenn Danzig’s House and feature a bunch of kickass bands for reeeeeal cheap… And night three will be at Betty’s Bar & Grill with more of the same [meaning more kickass music for real cheap] Keep reading

FRIDAY MARCH 12

KICKOFF PARTY
:: Special Guests
:::: Ben Steine’s Money
:::::: Larry David & The Hipsters [special non-holiday show]
@ The Jungle
$FREE – All Ages – 8PM

Larry David & The Hipsters
Nashville’s premiere Jewish holiday rock band will be performing a special, one time only, non-holiday season show. If you caught these guys at one of their 6 shows they played last Holiday-time, then you know that this is kind of a really really big deal. Seriously, the goyim and the shiksa go crazy for these dudes.

Ben Steine’s Money
After successfully hosting a slew of Nashville shows, Ben Steine’s Money have graciously agreed to play a set of jams at the party. The boys haven’t been around too much lately, but they did make an appearance not too long ago at Exit/In for Rock the Block. As is the usual with these punkers, they tore the place down. They were even recently invited to play ToddP’s MtyMx festival. Crazy, right?

Special Guests
We don’t want to give too much away about the special guests that will be playing at the kickoff party. We can say that it will probably be the first and last time you will see it.

After the bands, we will be spinning the wax tracks on the ones and twos and getting all the mamis wet on the dance floor. Let’s party.

SATURDAY MARCH 13

:: The Beets
:::: Ex Humans
:::::: Terrible Twos
:::::::: Beach Fossils
:::::::::: Peacekillers
:::::::::::: Natural Child
:::::::::::::: The Looking Glass
@ Glenn Danzig’s House
$5 – All Ages – 7PM

The Beets
The Beets have hit Nashville a couple times before this, and it’s always been a party. Juan, Jacob, and Jose belt out some of the catchiest lo-fi gems you’ll hear around, and we hear they’ve got a whole bunch of new jams this time. Check out some pictures from the last time they were here, and this video of them playing in a church [You’d think we could get more church shows here with the insane amount of churches…. we’re working on it]

Ex Humans
These dudes rock. Seriously. Have you listened to that Chicane 7″? You should. Gritty, snotty punk music from one of the fullest sounding three-pieces around. Think The Saints or The Victims or something. The dudes get alot of Carbonas comparisons, but we think that’s mainly just because ex-Carbona ex-Beat Beat Beat guitarist, Josh Martin, is the lead vocalist and guitar player. Shit rules.

Terrible Twos
Terrible Twos is from our second favorite city and has one of our favorite people of all time in it, so no duh we are stoked that they’re coming to town. They figured mid-March is usually when things start warming up in Nashy, and things are always so cold in the D, that it’d be a good time to come visit.

Beach Fossils
The Brooklyn babies are going to be supplying all the beachy dream-pop jams you can handle. We hate to just throw words out there like that, but seriously, if we wanted to hang loose at the beach and listen to dreamy jams with out hunnies… we’d be listening to Beach Fossils.

Peacekillers
We really have pretty much zero information on this band. We can tell you that it’s Jesse Martinez from Ex Humans’ sideband with his girlfriend. If it’s anything as awesome as they are, then this could be the best thing ever. Fuck it, lets go out on a limb here, this is the best band that’s ever happened.

Natural Child
You know these dudes already. They played your basement. They madeout with your sister, your mom, your girlfriend, your boyfriend, your dead dog, and on and on. They’re hitting the road for SXSW so come wish them a good trip.

The Looking Glass
Here is a number for you to keep in mind: 97. That’s how long The Looking Glass’s prospective debut is going to be… 97 minutes. We couldn’t be more stoked to see these guys again. In our extremely professional opinion, The Looking Glass are the most underrated band in Nashville AND the best band you’ve never seen.

SUNDAY March 14

:: Sisters
:::: Grooms
:::::: Coasting
:::::::: Videohippos
:::::::::: Lesser Alvarez Gonzalez
:::::::::::: Daniel Pujol
:::::::::::::: So Jazzy
@ Betty’s Bar & Grill
21+ – 8PM

Sisters
This whole batch of Brooklyn/Death By Audio bands might be the nicest bands we’ve ever met. Just saying. Sisters are a killer two-piece [you know we love our two pieces] that shell out noisy alternative jams that make you think Sonic Youth never really “got it”, ya know? Juuuuuuuust joking, Sonic Youth, don’t get so uptight. But the boys do rock and roll and their Nashville ties run pretty deep. They released a split-7″ with JEFF last year and, if you like good things, you’ll like them.

Grooms
Grooms might as well go ahead and buy themselves a Nashville house. Including this show, they’ll have come to Nashville 3 times in the last 6 months. And, including this show, they’ll all have been badass. Travis and co. have been perfecting some new tunes for the last bit and nothing but a pretty stellar time from these babes.

Coasting
These bebes have never made their way through Nashville before, but we’re glad they are now. Think Dolly Mixture + a little more punk – the Vivian Girls style you’re thinking about and that’ll = Coasting. Apparently, they’ve been helping Mr. Todd P put together that MtyMx festival, maybe we can convince them to take Ben Steine’s Money along with them.

Videohippos
Baltimore baybeez, Videohippos, have found it in them to come and hang on a Sunday night with us Nashveelers. They shell out sludgy electro rock fuzzy fun jams. That might be alot to soak in, but its truth.

Lesser Alvarez Gonzalez
Another Balti-babe who knows how to work a guitar. Folk-y jams that make you feel like you were organically grown and produced. Get stoned?

Daniel Pujol
Daniel’s one of our number 1 babes around here. He shreds for us and we go to his shows and yell and jump on things and he fills our head with worthwhile songs and thoughts. A new 7″ from Infinity Cat will be out soon enough and we’re sure you’ll be blown away if you haven’t been already.

So Jazzy
Just the jazziest. The 4-piece from the block has been pretty busy over the last two months and has been taking the majority of February off to work on new tunes and maybe even record. Come check out what they’ve been working on and tell Christina how great a drummer she is.

The Beets – My Bones, My Flesh, and Me [mp3]
Beach Fossils – Desert Sand [mp3]
Terrible Twos – Chink Glass Eye [mp3]
Natural Child – Dogbite [mp3]
Sisters – Accolades [mp3]
Grooms – Dreamsucker [mp3]
Coasting – Hots for Teacher [mp3]
Videohippos – Narwhals [mp3]
Lesser Alvarez Gonzalez – Pinecone Eyes [mp3]

And so there you have it. THE FREAKIN’ WEEKEND. Get stoked.
