WHAT'S UP-ROCK?

If you mamis have been keeping up with this site, you prolly know that we’re pretty big on the Real Estate dudes. Duh, we are super stoked for tonight. They’re back in Nashville for the second time almost a year after their first show here and they’ve brought their buddies Woods from Brooklyn along. Catch them at The End tonight and check out that new video for their song “Suburban Dogs” above. Pirate the mp3 below. Suck it. Maybe if we’re lucky they’ll lay down a Bleeker & The Freaks jam on us.

BEFORE WE GO ANY FURTHER

In the car on the way to Austin we got to Memphis and, since it was the first time we’d been back since September of last year, all we could really think about was Jay. Needless to say, it was kind of sad in the car. As we rolled into town, we got some real heartbreaking news: Alex Chilton had passed away from a heart attack. Memphis just can’t catch a break. There isn’t much else to say other than we were totally taken aback and totally bummed. We can’t find it right now, but there’s a video of Jay getting interviewed and he’s talking about Memphis and the Blues and how there are so many BB King bars when there should really be a Big Star bar, we couldn’t agree more…. Now, the saddest song ever. Thanks, Alex.

Big Star – Holocaust [mp3]

Paul Westerberg wrote this about Alex’s death. Read it.

DAY 1 OF THE FREAKIN' WEEKEND [IN PICS]

The first show of The FREAKIN’ WEEKEND was the bomb. The Kitty was packed out and everyone killed it — Ben Steine’s Money, Larry David & The Hipsters, and the newly founded Millions of Dead Punks. Oh and JEFF the Brotherhood were the special guests. People were playing in the bathroom, Ben Steine’s Money dropped their gear and beat up the crowd, girls took their tops off… Here are the photos courtesy of Bekah Cope. She’s the best.

AND THE WEEKEND WAS FREAKIN'

I can’t believe I’m alive and awake right now. Glenn Danzig’s House was a little overwhelming last night and has left us just about totally drained [Not to mention we lost an hour?! What’s the deals with that huh?] There are plenty of photos to come and everyone killed it last night —- big thanks to The Looking Glass, Beach Fossils, Terrible Twos, PeaceKillers, The Beets, Ex Humans, and Natural Child. Ex Humans played an old Carbonas jam – one of the best things to ever happen at Danzig’s. Anyways! Tonight is the final night of The FREAKIN’ WEEKEND. Come down to Betty’s B&G [407 49th Ave off Charlotte] at 7pm tonight to catch a bunch of great bands and welcome Mr. Pujol back home. See you there!
