Tomorrow marks the release of Juan Wauter’s first solo LP, N.A.P. — North American Poetry. It’s not a far cry from his work with the Beets. Both prominently feature Juan’s jangly nylon-stringed guitar work and his natural talent as as wordsmith. The differences are there though. When it comes time to lay down his story under his given name, Juan strips away the fun, even cute rouge so often present in the Beets’ body of work. Here he sounds like the older brother of his past self, not afraid come clean with his uncertainties and loneliness. “Who’s that in my skin? Has he done much for me? What is it that he says? Does he talk about me?” Heavy shit, man. Heavy. The record drops tomorrow on Captured Tracks. Pick it up on their site or at your finest local retailer.
