Jeffrey Novak is a Tennessee ripper. With Cheap Time he kills it. On the solo tip he kills it. On Lou Reed knowledge, he’s unmatched. It seems not a year goes by that we don’t think Mr. Novak’s not gotten the attention he deserves, but every year he continues ripping just the same.

Well folks, he’s done it again. Cheap Time’s newest full-length, Exit Smiles, was released on In the Red last week, and we feel comfortable saying it’s their best record yet. The Saints influence is still there, but it’s now joined by a healthy dose of La Dusseldorf. If that’s not something you can be down with, you might be on the wrong site. Cheap Time will be hitting the road on a two month American journey in January. Check the dates for that tour here, and pick up Exit Smiles here. You’ll be doing yrself a favor.

It’s also worth noting Jeffrey just released his third solo record. It’s called Lemon Kid and it’s available now from Trouble in Mind. Again, you need this. Don’t sleep.
