Last night Mikal Cronin tweeted that he had a surprise for everyone in the morning – so we went to bed dreaming of what it could be. We figured it would probably be the first single off his new record, but we didn’t know for sure. I mean, coulda been anything! But – lucky us – it was the debut of Mikal’s latest single “Shout It Out” from his next record – MCII – out May 7th from Merge Records. You can listen to it right down there. It’s poppy and melodic and fuzzy and everything we’d hope for from Mikal at this point. The new album distances itself from Mikal’s debut with songs focussed on “new beginnings” and we’re down with that. You can pre-order MCII right here from Merge and also order a Cronin-stylee tie-dye Merge tee at the same time. No word as to when we can expect a return to Nashville for Mikal and the boys, but we’re hoping sometime this Spring or Summer because it’ll be nicer outside and there’s nothing like a Mikal Cronin show in the sunshine…
