Feels like just yesterday we were gabbing away about Sonny Smith and his Sunsets and the release of their latest installment in the 100 Records project [Volume 3 was just released during their European tour by Spanish label Glitter End Records - snag here] But now we’re getting news of Sonny’s latest full length effort – Longtime Companion. The new LP will see release on June 26th from Polyvinyl Record Co. The new record has the Sunsets venturing towards a mellower country sound and drifting far from the surf/garage of last year’s Hit After Hit. Check out the first single from the record, “Pretend You Love Me,” below. This is the first release for Sonny & The Sunsets on Polyvinyl after leaving Fat Possum earlier this year. So we expect that a divorce from a former label and a divorce from a partner would mean that Longtime Companion should be a total break-up record.
