Why have we never made a post about James Jackson Toth, known better by the the recording and performance moniker Wooden Wand? With countless releases on (literally) dozens of labels including Ecstatic Peace!, Kill Rock Stars, Woodsist, and Young God, he’s paid his dues several times over. He’s also one of the most masterful songwriters around today, and for proof, you need look no further than his latest offering.

Farmer’s Corner was released last week on Fire Records, and it finds Wand in prime form. Gone is the hypnotic interplay of last year’s collaboration with the World War IV. In fact aside from some choice guitar work from local heavyweight William Tyler among others, Toth is much on on his own here, and the payoff is great. Peep “Uneasy Peace” below, and tune into the rolling guitar and the bass’ circling groove. It gives the illusion of the song having no real beginning or end, almost as if it had always been there. Such the the way of Wooden Wand. Farmer’s Corner is available now from Fire Records.
