Keeping right along with our Detroit theme, let’s talk about OBN III‘s. Yeah, yeah…we know they’re from Austin, but ask us what band is doing the best MC5/Stooges sound right now. It’s OBN III’s, son…every time it’s OBN III’s. We’re still a little bummed they weren’t able to make it to Freakin’ Weekend this year, but we’re getting over it more and more with every additional listen of their new record, Third Time To Harm.
Out this Tuesday on Tic Tac Totally, this record seems to find the band moving away from the aforementioned MC5/Stooges sound and instead taking on Motor City peers Alice Cooper and Sonic’s Rendezvous Band, which is to say there are some serious ANTHEMS on this thing. Check out “Beg To Christ” below. Organ swells and harmonized leads, acoustic guitars and rhythm changes. These are the sounds of a band coming to full realization on their third LP.
