And just like that, we’re suddenly only a week away from Freakin’ Weekend V. It’s about time we announce all the details. For starters, you can probably gather that’s this year’s poster up there. It was designed by the mighty Josh Shearon, whose work you may know from the second Freakin’ Weekend poster, our third birthday party poster, and the design/layout of this entire website. Party on, Josh. Whatta groover. NOW, how about the rest of the deets?
We’ll get things started with a little refresher on what’s going on with the night shows. Bands are traveling from near and far. The freaks are doing the same. It’s all for this, baby. Peep the line-up, and snag your three-day pass now to secure your spot in this madness.

You could hardly call it the Freakin’ Weekend without the annual POP-UP SHOP, and luckily for us, the fine folks at Local Honey [2009 Belmont Blvd] have agreed to let us squat in their back lot for yet another another three days. We’ll be slinging records, slinging tapes, slinging posters, slinging shirts, slinging it all daddy-o from our favorite local labels and artists. There will be free drinks and snacks to keep your freak tank fueled, and in the name of tradition, we’re throwing a couple free day shows at the shop as well. Why don’t we move along to that?
FRIDAY MARCH 7 DAY SHOW
TRISTEN
PETER STRINGER-HYE
STUDY HALL
AT THE POP-UP SHOP
$FREE – ALL AGES – 3PM
Though the shop will be open for bizness Thursday through Saturday noon til 5PM, the first day show won’t kick off until Friday afternoon around 3PM. It’ll all start with a set from Study Hall, who have earned a special place in our heart this past year. Featuring members of Dirty Dreams and Weekend Babes, they’ll build you up with two minutes of hooks only to tear you down with thirty seconds of noise. So sick. After Study Hall will be the debut performance from Peter Stringer-Hye. Peter’s most well known for being one-third of the the Paperhead, but he’s also done time in Promised Land Sound, D. Watusi, and Fictional Boys. Now’s he’s ready to make it on his own. We hear he’s got a motley crew of the Nashville elite backing him up. Can’t wait to see what they’ve got in store. Rounding off the bill will be one of the shining stars (not to mention babe-liest babes) of our fair city, Tristen. She played a day show for us a couple years ago, and now after releasing one of the best records of 2013, she’s ready come back. Fingers crossed she’ll play “Bourgeois Bouquet.”
SATURDAY MARCH 8 DAY SHOW
PISSBATH
WAXED
JAWWS
AT THE POP-UP SHOP
$FREE – ALL AGES – 3PM
While Friday’s day show will be more on the singer-songwriter side of things, this one is going to be punk as FUCK!! I’m being silly now, but truly, this show will be punk as freak. We all know Jawws are part of the newest wave of young rippers in town, but did you know their drummer isn’t even in high school yet?? Fucking SICK. They’re a little bit grunge, a little bit hardcore, and a lotta bit opening this show. See them now if you haven’t already. Waxed is next. Also belonging to the aforementioned wave of young rippers, these guys are some real deal hardcore-playing, skateboard-riding, high schooling long hairs. We wish we were that cool back then. Hell, we wish we were that cool right now. Headlining the second and final day show is Pissbath. Nashville’s premier noize-punks have been at it for nearly a couple years, and with three demos under their belt, they know their sound well. We quote Matt Walker, punk rocker, “I have seen the future of punk, and it is Pissbath.” Preach on, Matt.

One extra special item we’ll have available at our pop-up shop a new 7-inch single from Fox Fun, which we put together with this very weekend in mind. We’ve been hanging out with Ben and Asher since they were fourteen, doing Buzzcocks covers and playing at Glenn Danzig’s House, but while we’ve gotten to watch them grow up, we’ve also been able to call them our good friends. We’re really excited to be able to release these songs on 45. “Be Out” is an anthem for the night of an American teenager, and “Livin'” pays homage to the Great Nashville Country in the most appropriate way. Listen to A-side below, and pick up the single in the pop-up shop. We’ll have 50 copies with an alternative sleeve available there only.

We’re also going to try something a little new this year. If you’re the photo taking or movie shooting kind, we’ve made press passes for you! Just shoot an e-mail to freakinweekend5@gmail.com with your name and who you’re shooting for, and we’ll get you hooked up. This isn’t some kinda sugarcoated elimination process. Just about everyone who asks for a pass will be given one. It’s simply a way for us to keep tabs on where this stuff is going once it hits the yonder world, internet and all. To be clear, a photo or video pass does NOT get you into the shows for free and is only necessary if you’re shooting with a professional camera.

Last but certainly not least, we would like to extend a huge, HUGE thank you to our sponsors this year. We like think what we’re doing here is a good thing, and there’s no way we could do it without their support. Support them back whenever you have the chance!
