NASHBORO HQ
Everyone knows there’s more to Nashville than country music, but one of the most overlooked chapters in our town’s history is its contribution to black R&B, soul, and [most pertinent to this post] gospel. In fact, Nashville produced one of the longest running and most prolific black gospel labels in history with Nashboro Records, and now the fine folks at Tompkins Square have released a four-CD box set to shed some light on just that. I Hear the Angels Singing: Electrifying Black Gospel from the Nashboro Label came out yesterday, but there’s a free party celebrating the collection’s release at the Stone Fox tonight. All that has been announced is a DJ set from Kevin Nutt, but we wouldn’t be surprised if they had some other things up their sleeve. Pick up the box set here, and try to check out that party tonight. It’s sure to be good time.
