BEFORE WE GO ANY FURTHER

In the car on the way to Austin we got to Memphis and, since it was the first time we’d been back since September of last year, all we could really think about was Jay. Needless to say, it was kind of sad in the car. As we rolled into town, we got some real heartbreaking news: Alex Chilton had passed away from a heart attack. Memphis just can’t catch a break. There isn’t much else to say other than we were totally taken aback and totally bummed. We can’t find it right now, but there’s a video of Jay getting interviewed and he’s talking about Memphis and the Blues and how there are so many BB King bars when there should really be a Big Star bar, we couldn’t agree more…. Now, the saddest song ever. Thanks, Alex.

Paul Westerberg wrote this about Alex’s death. Read it.

That quote’s in the mini-doc on Jay’s myspace.
