Iceage-man Marching Church is at Third Man tonight while Ranch Ghost plays the East Room. Soft Option is at the End tomorrow, heaviness royalty Sleep plays the Cannery on Wednesday, Big Surr is at the Basement East on Thursday, and then snack til your heart’s content for the Super Bowl this Sunday. Apologies for coming to you late this week. We’ve been hard at work out in those salt mines, and these things don’t write themselves. Alas, your rundown… There’s a poetry reading tomorrow, but it seems you’ll have to find the address yourself. Friday brings the opportunity to see local faves Savoy Motel, Idle Bloom, Sun Seeker, and Daddy Issues all for free at Mercy Lounge. The old timers take over this weekend with Wings’ Denny Laine performing Band On the Run on Saturday and Emmylou Harris playing City Winery on Sunday. And you lucky duck, Boston’s Adult closes out the week at the East Room.

A month has passed since Nashville FD’s crackdown on local DIY venues, and the effects are overwhelmingly apparent. The shows aren’t nil though, and those same kind promoters from before are already finding ways to dodge the snag. DOG from New York play at Betty’s tomorrow, Soccer Mommy play the End on Thursday, and Roger Ebert’s 1970 cult classic Beyond the Valley of the Dolls is the midnight movie at Belcourt on Friday. Our lord and savior Willie Nelson plays War Memorial on Saturday while our prodigal son DOMO celebrates his 21st b-day at Dream House and there’s a good house (???) show out there if you know who to ask. Sunday is a Monster Truck Rally, cos why not?

Well, take a look at the shows below and you’ll see that it’s definitely Christmas week. Things are D-E-A-D dead aside from a scattering of holiday shows around town. Take the time to hang with your homies that are back home for break, finish your shopping, maybe start thinking about those New Years resolutions. It’s A Wonderful Life is at Belcourt this week and I bet your parents would love to go with you — jussst saying. Alright, Happy Holidays sweet peas. Be merry and bright.

It’s a Topanga throw-down tonight with Human Highway/Solo Trans at Belcourt and Croz himself at Schermerhorn. Of course Nobunny and Cowboys are at Betty’s and Homeshake are at Cobra if you’re looking for the nightlife. Things then get fairly quiet until the weekend. Ranch Ghost are at the Basement East on Friday while Ghostie (hehe) play Meal Ticket and Hellrazor are at Drkmttr on Saturday while Birdcloud host their Christmas party at the Basement East. Finally on Sunday the legendary KOOL KEITH of Ultramagnetic MC’s hits the Basement East. Too kool.

This week is full of anticipation for Halloween and not much else! You could go listen to Garth Brooks downtown or catch the Tony Conrad doc at Belcourt tonight. You can see Danny Brown or get in the spirit with Scanners at Belcourt on Wednesday, BUT THEN IT COMES… Halloween pre-eekend (right?). Friday is wild: spook jooks from Lucky Bamboo to Soft Junk, Drkmttr to some impressive spot Sparkle City found downtown, Saturday winds down a hair with Portal at the East Room and Lylas at Betty’s, and Sunday isn’t even undead it’s just straight up dead. Getch yore costumes ready y’all. Monday’s the big night!

Ooh wee we are just in the thick of October, aren’t we? Blood moon’s come, flannel’s out, Halloween is a week away, and the shows keep comin’. Wednesday gives you a slew of options between the obvious choice Lumpy and the Dumpers and the jam-off between Bob Weir at the Ryman and Phish at Ascend. Trouble In Mind recording artists OMNI play Queen Ave on Thursday while my dad’s favorite bluegrass dude (and truly a ripper in his own right) Larry Sparks is at Station Inn. Then it’s a weekend of album release shows with Savoy Motel celebrating their debut LP at a warehouse in Wedgewood Houston on Friday and Faux Ferocious celebrating their debut LP at Fond Object on Saturday. Fall delivers yet again on its tradition of new releases and that’s a-ok with us.
