ALL THE WEEKEND YOU CAN FREAKIN’

Can you believe it? The week of the freak is HERE. It’s ours, and all that’s left to do is enjoy it. To keep confusion to a minimum, we thought we’d make one final post with (hopefully) all the answers you could question. For starterS, you see that poster up there?? Pretty SICK, huh?? That’s the poster for this year, and it was designed by the wonderful Story Beeson with some layout assistance from our main squeeze Josh Shearon. We’ll have posters and shirts with the design available at the pop-up shop, but more about that later. Before we get ahead of ourselves, why don’t we have a lil lesson review on the nighttime shows?

Of course the Weekend ain’t Freakin’ without the annual POP-UP SHOP. We’re changing things up a little bit this year and moving operations over to Fort Houston [500 Houston St], but the debauchery will include everything you’ve come to expect. We’ll have tapes and records by all the bands playing the weekend and beyond as well as a limited supply of shirts and posters for the weekend. Our good buddies Queen of Stars will be there slinging their vintage wares the prices that are nicest. We’ll have a’pizza from Two Boots, a’beerza from Yazoo, and sodas and more free of charge for all you freaks in charge. We’ll also have some righteous day shows…

FRIDAY MARCH 13 DAY SHOW
SAVOY MOTEL
QUICHENIGHT
BEN PARKS
DJ SUFIS
AT THE POP-UP SHOP
$FREE – ALL AGES – 3PM

Though the shop will be open noon to five starting Thursday, the day shows won’t kick off til 3PM on Friday. Before and in-between bands, we’ll have Calvin and Evan from the Sufis spinning records. Then first up to the plate will be Ben Parks. As previously mentioned, he’s a true man about town, and you’ve probably seen him play whether you realize it or note [hello Fox Fun, OGG, Sunseeker]. Here he’ll be performing under his given name for the first time with some new material as well as old favorites. After that we’ll have Quichenight, the solo project of PUJOL guitar wizard Brett Rosenberg. The newest incarnation of the band also features Fox Fun’s Asher Horton on guitar and thee one and only Daniel Pujol on drums, and if that ain’t an A-Team we don’t know what is. Rounding out the bill is Savoy Motel, a new super-group of sorts featuring Jeffrey Novak [Cheap Time], Jessica McFarland [Cheap Time, Heavy Cream], Mimi Galbierz [Wieners, Heavy Cream, Slammers], and Dillon Watson [D. Watusi, Circle K]. If you missed their first show at the Fort Houston birthday bash last month, here’s your second chance. They bring the groove to make you move.

SATURDAY MARCH 14 DAY SHOW
WESTERN MEDICATION
SLAMMERS
KING BITCH
CHAINSHOT
DJ DORKER VIBES
AT THE POP-UP SHOP
$FREE – ALL AGES – 3PM

Continuing in freak week tradition, our Saturday show will lean on the gnarlier side. DJ Dorker Vibes [aka Ben Swank of Ultras S/C, Soledad Brothers, and Third Man fame] will be on the ones and twos, and Chainshot will lead the way. Featuring members of about a million other Nashville punk bands [Pissbath, Switchblade, and Cannomen to name a few], Chainshot have likely played more local shows in the past year than any other band playing Freakin’ Weekend. They just released their second single last month, and boy is it a ripper. Don’t miss ’em. After them is King Bitch, the most promising product yet from the mind of Casey Weissbuch. They released a cassette on Infinity Cat last year and have really been picking up steam in the last couple months. Sure to be a shit show is Slammers, Nashville’s very own hardcore super-group featuring members of JEFF the Brotherhood, Cy Barkley and the Way-Outsiders, Cannomen, Heavy Cream, and more. They haven’t played one of our day shows since Freakin’ Weekend III, and we couldn’t be more stoked to see them again in this setting. Rounding out the bill will be Western Medication, who we can count on to wash the day show away in an amps-to-11 wall of sound. Western Meds, featuring members of Cannomen, Watcherand Idle Bloom, has been hard at work in the past year, doing mini-tours what seems like every weekend and putting out tape after tape of music that splits the difference between 80s punk and our favorite Smiths (Robert and Mark E.). Can’t wait to see what 2015 holds for these dudes!

That’s about it, babies. Again, we would like to thank Third Man Records, Yazoo Brewery, Do615, Grimey’s, and Two Boots for sponsoring this year. If you’re a photographer and you’d like a press pass, email nashvillesdeadrecords@gmail.com and we’ll get you fixed up. If you’re tryna to get your freak on but just can’t afford the price of admission, do the same. This weekend comes but once a year and it’s too much fun to be denied to any one person. If you can afford it, you might wanna go ahead and get your tickets now because these things will probably sell out! Alright y’all, see you on Thursday!
