Titus Andronicus gets it!! See!? Those P-Forkers had a sit down chit-chat with Titus and when they asked him about what his most recent favorite concerts were, he said Natural Child! I remember seeing him at the show at DBA and thinking, “What is Greg doing here!?” Anyways, I don’t think Titus could’ve nailed it any better after only seeing Natural Child once for 20 minutes. Getting compared to Thin Lizzy and being described as “1970s heavy rock” is badass. Nice one, babies. Here’s a video from that show.

Richmond’s Southside Stranglers [feat. Kenny and Brandon from Government Warning ---- this really shouldn't get pigeonholed as a "side project" though. Its too good for "side project" standards] put out their debut 7″ Too Much TV on Grave Mistake and Vicious Circle earlier this year and we’ve been blown away. I mean, pretty much anything Brandon touches is worthwhile. That dude’s in every good band in Richmond [We'll go ahead and apologize to you if you're in a Richmond band and Brandon's not in it. Sorry] They’ve got a nice demo cassette out there too, but good luck finding it. Word on the street is that the boys are rolling through Nashville in early May. No confirmation yet, but keep your eyes peeled and run your record player into the ground with their new 7″ in anticipation.

Since our Strange Boys buddies from Austin, TX are rolling through town this weekend, we figured we’d talk about their Austonian brothers Harlem and their new record that comes out next week from Matador. The Matababes just sent us word that you can now stream the entire album, Hippies, on their myspace. Seriously? Who doesn’t know how to spell hippys? What kind of public schools do they have in Austin? Anyways, they’re heading out on tour soon and it’ll bring them to Chattanooga [Apr. 16] Nashville [May 13] and Memphis [May 14] Just can’t get enough of the Tennessee these days.

The boys had an album come out around this time last year called Free Drugs ;) on Female Fantasy Records, which you can still pick up.

Well, we tried to take the week last week and use it for recovery. That didn’t exactly pan out how we expected. This week we’re hoping to finally regroup and collect ourselves and get back on the ball with photos and bands and shows and stuff. You know, like the golden days. In our first attempt, let’s get alllllllll the SXSW photos out there in one giant post. How does that sound? Overwhelming? Yeah, well, suck it. We’ll keep it as chronological as possible, but take it easy on us – there’s a lot. We gotta say that, in all honesty, JEFF was the best thing we saw all week. We’re totally biased, but whatever. Other highlights include seeing Death [even though it's not really the same at all anymore] hanging with baby PopJew, going to a house party where Andrew WK was playing and Bill Murray was watching, and hanging with our friends. The other best thing we heard all week was this, “Nashville is saving rock and roll.” We overheard someone say that after watching Natural Child and JEFF at the PopJew/Acid Marshmallow/Modern Country showcase. We couldn’t agree more and you’ll notice from our photos that it was hard to not see Nashville bands. As is the case with carrying lots of film — sometimes you lose a roll. This time we lost 2 FOUND ‘EM! SUCK IT! [JEFF and Death at the Panache showcase, and something else we can't remember] All photos are courtesy numba on stunna Bekah Cope. After Days 1 and 2 of the FREAKIN’ WEEKEND, we were pretty amazed that anyone still had it in them to get down for a-whole-nother night filled with a million bands. Seriously though there were 9 bands that played. It started at 8:30 and ended before 1:30. That’s pretty amazing to think about though, right? Anyways, our bebe-beb Bekah Cope was there for a good part of the night but ran out of film towards the later half, so here are some pictures of So Jazzy, Videohippos, Lesser Gonzalez Alvarez, Terrible Twos [Pt. 2], and Puffy Areolas.
