MARK YOUR CALENDARS

GonerFest announced the first little batch of bands playing this year’s festival [now in it's seventh year] along with the dates: Sept. 23 – 26. The tweeted to the tweople across the tweety nation that Australia’s Super Wild Horses, Total Control, and UV Race will be playing. Pretty gnarly, and if it’s anything like last year’s fest it’s sure to be a good time. If you wanna keep up on the latest drops from Gonerfest, follow their twitter. See you in Memphis!

TIME TO BE BRAVE

OK, so first we wake up and mom and pops are like, “HEY KID GET BACK TA BED IT’S SNOWING YEAHHHH!” and then we get on the computer after sledding and the internet’s like, “CHECK OUT THAT NEW PUJOL AND SO JAZZY SHIV!” and then we did and those Danzig Boys were like “HEY CHECK IT! STRANGE BOYS IN APRIL!” Could this day get any better!? Strange Boys have hit Nashville before [back in December of '08 with Darker My Love at Exit/In] and this time is sure to be a total party. They’ve got a new member [See that girly up there? Doesn't she look a little Mika Miko-y? It's 'cause she is] The boys are touring with Spoon and Deerhunter for a little bit and some Chain & The Gang then hitting Nashy after their new LP drops on In The Red. Stoked? Yes. Check out a video of their new single Be Brave out on In The Red/Rough Trade…

NEW TRUE PANTHER MAGIC

Our Memphsonian buddies, Magic Kids [who are coming to town on Feb. 6 with Girls and Smith Westerns at Exit/In] just joined up with True Panther Sounds today. And like, two months ago, True Panther Sounds joined up with Matador. And like, four months ago, Matador joined up with Apple and came out with the iPadador [every Matador release available on a big touch-screeny thing and it costs a million dollars. Get us one now!] That last bit was a joke. But, we’re stoked that people are pay attention to our fellow Tennesseans and we can’t wait for them to hit the streets on Feb. 6th. Check out these jams…

IS IT JUST US…

forrest bride | MySpace Music Videos

… Or did Forrest Bride put out an LP without us even knowing about it!? We were down at Grimey’s today just hanging out and saw a Forrest Bride LP that we had no prior knowledge of. Duh, we scooped that shit [Hey, even if it's not new, it's new to us] And when we got it home, came to find that our fave Sebastian Speaks [Home to other locals like Deluxin' and Paper Hats] released this gem. And it’s just that — a gem. Not sure where else you can scoop this other than Grimey’s, so go and get it!

FRESH AND SHRINEY

Looks like bad-boy Arish [King Khan] can’t get enough Tennessee. He and BBQ ran through town a while back with Those Darlins, maybe you remember? He’s bringing the Shrines with him on April 1st to Exit/In for what’s sure to be a party. He’s also bringing along So-Cal babes, Fresh & Onlys. We caught them back at Gonerfest and they killed it. Even with a broken arm. If you feel like you’ve heard alot about these dudes in the last few months, it’s probably because… 1. they deserve it and 2. they’ve been putting out releases like it’s nobodies business [singles with Volar, Woodsist, Dirty Knobby, Castle Face, etc.] Get stoked!

3-4-5 THAT’S MY NUMBER [GET IT? 3 45s?]

JTBThree new 7″s are slated to come out later this spring: one from JTB, one from Mr. Pujol, and one from your favorite Kindygarten Circus. JEFF’s new 7″ doesn’t feature any new songs, not that it really matters since it does have “The Tropics” and “U Got the Look” on it. The other thing about this one is that it’s their first overseas release, and they’ll only have 50 copies stateside [out of a pressing of 500] Collectors get ready!

PUJOL2010

We know what you’re thinking, “Didn’t Daniel Pujol just put out a cassette?” Yes, he did, and it rules. But now he’s putting out a 7″ that should be out in mid-March featuring 3 songs [2 new ones] We think it’s going to be called PUJOL 2010 and will look something pretty Mad Max-y, like that picture up there. This one’s an Infinity Cat release [duh] Get in touch with your inner Pujol here.

Rounding out the slew of new, Kindergarten Circus recorded a new 7″ over the Krimmuh break and we heard a little sneak peak and can vouch for it’s gnarly-ness. They even brought in James Leg from Black Diamond Heavies for a little help. The 7″ should feature two songs and be out sometime this spring. We think. Twin Evils. Stoked.

THE-SHREDITORIAL

Man, we’re still reeling from the MLK Edition Shreditorial, but it’s time for another post from our buddy Daniel Pujol. This one’s about punk rockers…. Enjoy!

DONTTHINKTWICE

Shreditorial 5

Man, you know what is completely omniscient and rules my world and

watches me pee?: Punk rocks. Punk rocks are so engraved into American

culture now, that they fizzle in your Coca-Cola. Even rich white

people love it! It’s been condensed from a means of economic survival

and a different way of living besides the empty and naive rational

materialism that we mistake as creature comforts to Green Day hating

the president while their make-up runs on VH1. It really is just the

irresponsible opposite, like radical atheism or abstinence!

The best thing about punk rocks in America is “fuck you” means

“hello.” This way, we can say whatever we want and always make the

upper to upper middle class uncomfortable. BUTT, the best part is that

now it is okay to do that because it makes money. The whole idea of

being bad has been completely absorbed by the American bourgeoisie and

now its an excuse to feel oppressed by something that doesn’t exist

instead of an unfortunate temporary solution or an artistic expression

of our repressed humanity! It’s even “normal” to have pink streaks in

my hair like your 15 forever in college and beyond (FINALLY!) but the

jocks still hate you. It’s like packaging, domesticating, propagating,

and selling My Pocket Class Conflict! Genus!

It’s like the government figured out if they let people buy and say

whatever they want they will never have to worry about them doing

anything! On top of that, the commodification of punk rocks’ symbol

set means that you’re materially speaking corporate vocabulary, and

since people “understand” its domesticated leather studs, its not even

a threat and maybe even the village idiot!

Just like the Beatles, maybe 20th century authority figures learned

that its easier to control people by letting them say, eat, fuck,

shit, dress, but not believe, live, or marry whatever they want

instead of using violence. Then they don’t look bad and the citizens

can feel like heroes who stick it to a man missionary style in the

dark! All you need is love, and the money to buy the things to

communicate that you think that thought to other people who “get it?”

So here I am, to give it up to punk rocks in front of god and

Everybody: Punk rocks, you totally shred. Sorry corporate America had

sex with James Dean’s corpse who stuck its dick in the apple pie and

pulled out a way to be bad, but still good enough to go home. You’ve

been a real sport about being a caricature of yourself. Do you have a

new name now or are we supposed to make it up?

Aristotelian particulars and the essence of forms?,

Perennial philosophy?,

Daniel Pujol

http://www.myspace.com/danielluccapujol

Hey we are punk rockers and fuck your money! Thanks, Daniel. You’re best.
